Toasts of Veuve Cliquot are in order. Coach Krzyzewski (aka Coach K) won his 1,000th game as a head coach on Sunday when Duke beat St. John's. That's more wins than any other Division I basketball coach in history, and likely more games than any betch would want to ever see.
Coach K has been the head coach at Duke for 927 of those wins. He's won four national championships and produced countless NBA players along the way.
Then, since 2008, every four years Coach K suits up as the head coach of the U.S. Men's Olympic Team. And like the patriot he is, Coach K coached them to the gold medal. Twice.
He's a hardass on the court. But he's philanthropic off of it, and has donated sizable chunks of his income to non-profits and to establishing a program in Durham (named after his mother) to break the poverty cycle among families.
Coach K has coached his teams to reach 11 Final Fours, 13 ACC Tournament championships, and a record 82 tournament wins in the NCAA tournament.
Statistically speaking, Coach K is the greatest college basketball coach the United States has ever seen. He's a patriotic, ball-busting, visionary coach. Cheers to you, Coach K, and may God bless you so that some day, people will actually be able to pronounce your name.
