Doris Roberts, OG betchy grandma, died on Sunday of natural causes. She was 90 years old.
Roberts was best known for playing Marie Barone, the clingy and over-involved mother to Ray Barone and betchy MIL to Debra (Particia Heaton), on Everybody Loves Raymond. She also starred in a variety of other programs during her 60 years in the entertainment industry.
Her on-screen son Ray Romano stated that she, “...had an energy and a spirit that amazed me. She never stopped.”
Doris had an unwavering ability to capture an audience with her betchiness. Her talent inspired thousands of actors, who took to Twitter to share their most fond memories.
Her creation of the character Marie blended the betchy style of a multitude of cultures, appealing to women across the world of all generations and expertly capturing the essence of everybody's grandma into one role. Roberts created one of the strongest and admirable women on television—one who adored her husband, but also wasn't afraid to tell him, or any of the men in her life, what asses they were being.
RIP Doris Roberts. Your IDGAF attitude will live on forever in the hearts of betches everywhere.
