Certified hottie and pretty decent sportscaster Erin Andrews won her lawsuit against the Nashville Marriott at Vanderbilt University hotel and some pervert on Monday.
The perv in question, Michael Barrett, found out what room Erin was staying in back in 2009, and set up a camera in the peep-hole. He posted the video online, as creeps are want to do.
Barret was sentenced to 2 ½ years in prison after he was found guilty of stalking, and now he’s on the hook for 51% of the damages, or roughly $28 million and some change. The Nashville Marriot is supposed to pay around $26 million.
TMZ reports, though, her winnings will probably get whittled away to about $6 million. Still a good chunk of change, yes, but not $55 million.
On this International Women’s Day, we should probably thank Andrews for standing the fuck up for herself by not letting this creeper get away with his stalking/peeping Tom antics. Some internet trolls and general complainers are whining that “she doesn’t need the money” and “juries made mistakes in other important court cases." Sure, both of those things are probably true.
Yes, there are probably some other important things to talk about in the news right now, like, idk, the election or something, but Andrews’ case sets a pretty decent precedent to combat issues like revenge porn and violations of privacy.
Complain all you want about Andrews. Most of us would have done the same thing if we were in her really awesome shoes. It’s a middle finger emoji to creeps out there who think they can get away with this shit.
