Kristen Stewart has pretty much been hated by every group of millennials. People hated her for her lip-biting, mumbling Bella Swan portrayal, for cheating on Rob Pattinson, and now because Variety majorly fucked up an interview with her. Variety published an interview with quotes from Stewart that basically made her seem like a light-core racist. Like can't she just take her critically acclaimed dramas and Chanel endorsements and live in peace? Apparently not.
They took a quote and made it seem like she was talking about racial diversity in Hollywood, but she was actually talking about gender equality and urging women to action. "Go write something, go do something. And that's easy to say. Like, fuck, it's hard to get movies made. It's a huge luxury. Who gets to just make movies? But that subject is so prevalently everywhere right now, and it's boring." You know what's not boring? A major magazine trying to fuck with an international movie star to get media attention.
Obvi the Internet lost it's shit. First, people tried to crucify her for white-privilege. Then, people freaked out at Variety for race baiting. Moral of the story: Don't talk shit if you don't have the screenshots to back it up.
Correction: Kristen Stewart was addressing gender equality, not diversity, in this Variety video segment https://t.co/gDlQbTz0wQ— Variety (@Variety) January 26, 2016
