First she flipped the fuck out at OK! Magazine for describing her as "Harry Styles' ex-girlfriend" and "Calvin Harris' rumoured girlfriend," because they should have also included John Mayer in that list. She Tweeted, "Why we need feminism in 2015." Ummm pretty sure we need feminism in 2015 for equal pay, hiring opportunities, and nudity rights on Instagram, but sure Taylor, your portrayal in irrelevant magazines is really important too.
Then she posted a letter to Apple on Tumblr about their free trial for Apple Music, which is like Spotify but for iTunes. Everyone who signs up gets a free 3 month subscription during which none of the musicians will get paid. Taylor (read: Taylor's manager) decided not to allow Apple to use 1989, since they won't pay musicians, which she interprets as the worst form of disrespect. She's doing it for the same reasons she took all of her songs off of Spotify: people should be paid for making music.
In principle, I don't disagree with her. But also I just really want to listen to Style for free, so idk Tay. She asked Apple to either pay the musicians for their music or lose her 1989 album. Doesn't she know that ultimatums usually don't work out in relationships? On second thought, she very clearly doesn't know that.
Tay ended her letter with "We don't ask you for free iPhones. Please don't ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation." I said something similar to my dad at Father's Day brunch, except I did ask for a free iPhone 6 and said I wouldn't show up to my cousin's wedding without compensation..
