Bad news: Science says weed addiction is real, and they've identified the genes for pot addiction. Worse news: If you get addicted to weed, you probably also have depression or schizophrenia. We barely paid attention in high school biology, so our understanding of genetics is a little shaky, but scientists have just figured out the genes that make people much more likely to be addicted to marijuana. While marijuana addiction isn’t super common, it appears that the same genes are also indicators for depression, schizophrenia, and a number of other psychiatric conditions and addictions.
So basically the bottom line is that it’s fine to like pot, but if you start to really have stoner cravings then you might want to see a psychiatrist. If you let it get to the point where you’re covering your room with Grateful Dead posters and eating all your meals in bed, it might already be too late.
