Hyperlapse, the application owned by Instagram, is currently trying to make something called “selfielapsing” work. In general, the app allows users to compress real time video by using the same technique as timelapse photography. Basically, you can use it to make boring shit look cool by speeding it up.
The app is shamelessly promoting itself by introducing something called “selfielapsing,” which is a function thatt allows you to face the camera towards you. Riveting. So that means your instagram feed will be forever flooded with videos of people like, blinking really fast.
On the other hand, there could be some interesting potential here. Dancing, taking shots, looking skinny in 3D, all of these are things that “selfielapsing” could bring into the mainstream of self-photography. We’ll just have to wait and see if this takes off or if it will join Myspace Tom in the trashy technology graveyard.
