Doechii has an explanation for her umbrella controversy from the 2025 Met Gala. There’s a series of words I never thought I’d string together, and yet here we are. As if we don’t have enough in the news to worry about, some people got mad at Doechii for yelling about umbrellas on her way to the Met Gala, but she took to TikTok to let fans know what really happened.
It all started when an X user posted a video of Doechii as she left The Mark Hotel on her way to the Met Gala. At least, I’m pretty sure it’s a video of Doechii; it’s hard to tell because she’s completely covered by portable screens. She clearly wanted to make sure no part of her look got leaked before she hit the blue carpet, and so in the video, she can be heard yelling for umbrellas to cover her up from the top.
“Give me another umbrella, now,” she shouts in the video. “I need more fucking umbrellas!” On the original X post, the user wrote, “why is doechii talking to her team like this?? I would’ve threw an umbrella AT HER so fast….”
But honestly, the Met Gala is the most high-pressure fashion event ever. Of course she’s gonna be stressed about people seeing her look before they should, especially because she had a very high-profile collab going for her first Met Gala ever. Doechii wore a Louis Vuitton suit that she worked on with the brand’s men’s creative director and one of the Met Gala co-chairs, Pharrell Williams. I’d be stressed, too! But don’t worry, Doechii explained the Met Gala umbrella controversy herself.
On May 7, Doechii posted a TikTok that addressed the whole umbrella sitch. In the video, she holds her hands up while “Easy” by The Commodores plays, and big text on screen reads: “God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas ☂️😂 .” Honestly, I kinda love it. She had a look to protect! Of course she needed more umbrellas!

In the caption of the TikTok, Doechii wrote, “All jokes aside this was such an overstimulating night but I wouldn’t trade it for the world! This was the night we all dreamed of and my team killed it (umbrellas aside).” As a gal who gets overstimulated simply watching the Met Gala, I can only imagine how overwhelming it must be actually attending. So good for you, Doechii, for claiming all the umbrellas you need!
