Not everyone applauded Katy Perry for going to space for a whole five seconds (11 minutes) along with Gayle King and Jeff Bezos’ partner, Lauren Sánchez. In fact, many of us were pretty frustrated that a pop star went on an unbelievably pricy and wasteful Blue Origin influencer trip to support Jeff, the CEO of Amazon and Tr*mp’s BFF. Meanwhile, normal people can’t afford eggs right now… It’s giving out of touch, to say the least.

The internet had several field days with some particularly cringeworthy Katy interviews from before and after the journey. “I’m so excited to learn more about STEM and just the math,” she said ahead of the flight. (I quote that daily.) Upon returning, she reflected: “I feel super connected to love. So connected to love. I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside of you.” Kim, there are people that are dying!

Naturally, Katy’s Lifetimes tour is space-themed. She hinted at the criticism of the space flight during her April 23 show in Mexico, asking, “Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?” Now, she’s shared a lengthy message with fans about how she really feels. On April 29, the Katy fan account, @katyperrybrasil on Instagram, shared a message supporting her amid the ongoing hate. “@katyperry has taught us that love is the key that opens every door,” the caption reads. “Today, we wanted to remind her that she is never alone; our love for her is boundless, unwavering, and eternal.” The caption also revealed that loving messages from Katycats would be playing at Times Square for the next day. Superfans really know how to get shit done.

Katy thanked her fans in the comments section, emphasizing that she’s “so grateful” for them. She also opened up about the recent online vitriol aimed at her. “I can continue to remain true to myself, heart open and honest especially because of our bond,” she wrote, adding, “Please know I am ok, I have done a lot work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me.” Katy added that the internet is trying to make her “a human Piñata,” but she’s able to handle it with “grace” and send people love.

“I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed,” she continued. The singer admitted that she’s “not perfect” and that she’s “on a human journey” like everyone else. “Somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS,” her caption concluded.

No one deserves to be bullied — okay, except the president and his crew of billionaires. That being said, I do think it’s fair to (respectfully) call out celebrities when they make harmful choices ~such as supporting Jeff Bezos~. Luckily for Katy, she can look forward to plenty of adoring stans coming to show their love and cheer her on at the Lifetimes tour.
