Sobbing: That’s The ‘Wizards’ Set In Selena Gomez’s “Younger And Hotter Than Me” Video

Take me back to 2010, I beg you.

Check in on your friends who have stanned Selena Gomez for more than half their lives. I just shed several tears while watching the “Younger And Hotter Than Me” behind-the-scenes teaser video, so it’s safe to say I’ll be violently sobbing when the actual music video comes out at midnight.

That song is the second track on Selena’s new album, I Said I Love You First, which she made with her producer fiancé, Benny Blanco. Ahead of the album drop, Selena and Benny gave us a sneak peek of the “Younger And Hotter” music video, and those of us who were raised by Wizards of Waverly Place are unwell right now. There’s a covered-up set that looks VERY familiar. Why is the Wizards of Waverly Place set in Selena Gomez’s new music video, you ask? Allow me, someone who based her entire personality on Alex Russo, to break it down.

Selena Gomez “Younger And Hotter Than Me” Music Video: Wizards Of Waverly Place Set

Is The Wizards Of Waverly Place Set In Selena Gomez’s “Younger And Hotter Than Me” Music Video?

The music video doesn’t officially drop until March 21, but based on the sneak peeks, the Wizards of Waverly Place set (or a replica of it) is definitely in Selena’s new music video. On March 20, Selena posted a photo of herself sitting in a covered-up set that resembles the iconic Wizards living room. But it’s even more obvious in the behind-the-scenes teaser Selena shared on YouTube — we get to see more of the familiar living room set, and there’s also a set that looks like the Wizards high school, Tribeca Prep. Clearly, Selena graduated from the Taylor Swift School of Easter Eggs, because she sold her Alex Russo wand for $4 the other day. (For the record, this is like da Vinci selling the Mona Lisa for $4.)

During their recent interview with Spotify, Selena and Benny explained the Wizards connection to I Said I Love You First. “The album opens up and it was actually the last speech Selena ever gave on the set of Wizards of Waverly Place,” Benny shared. “She’s talking about how she hopes she makes everyone proud, and it’s very emotional. And then, it goes right into ‘Younger & Hotter Than Me,’ which kind of undresses that whole situation.” Selena noted that she was 18 when Wizards ended. She called wrap day “one of the most emotional days of my life” and added that it was “the end of a very interesting chapter.”

In this song, Selena seems to reflect on leaving her Disney Channel era behind and finding her way as an adult in the industry. “I used to feel like an angel / Now I’m a dog on your leash,” she sings. “X on my hand drawn in Sharpie / Now I use my own ID / All of the girls at this party / Are younger and hotter than me.”

If anyone needs me, I’ll be streaming I Said I Love You First on repeat and crying for the next seven to 10 business days.
