If The Life List is your current hyperfixation, you were an overachiever/big dreamer as a child who eventually got burnt out and depressed. Now, you’re in your 20s or 30s, feeling kind of lost, numb, and aimless, and trying to figure out your “purpose” in therapy. Congrats! You’re just like the other girls. But if Alex can get her spark back, so can we. That being said, I doubt all our life-list journeys will involve a juicy love triangle with two hot, successful men (hi Garrett and Brad) — a devastating reality.

The last task on Alex’s life list is, of course, to find true love. After a few messy relationships don’t work out, she does ultimately find The One. So, who does Alex end up with in The Life List? Let’s unpack the rom-com portion of this movie.

Who Does Alex End Up With In The Life List? Garrett & Brad Love Triangle Explained

Does Alex End Up With Garrett Or Brad In The Life List?

Girlie dated some truly horrifying villains before she wound up with the love of her life. Fortunately, she ditched her man-child, videogame-obsessed BF Finn pretty quickly. (Why TF was he dancing on her childhood bed naked while kids were running around the house? I have questions.)

Next, she moves on to British psychologist Garrett. Alex and Garrett have a meet-cute on the subway and discover a few minutes later that they’re coworkers at the women’s shelter. Just rom-com things! Garrett seems super charming at first, and he’s loaded and sophisticated, but he’s also the world’s most insufferable asshole. When Alex notices that he never wants to come over to her place, she confronts him about it, and he agrees to have dinner with her friends at her apartment.

The entire time her friends laugh and joke about normal girl things (the ick, time travel, etc.), Garrett looks like he’s gonna puke, have a panic attack or both. Later that night, he tells Alex he didn’t have fun and complains about her friends’ “inane conversation about absolutely nothing.” I had a powerful urge to punch my laptop screen at that moment.

Since Garrett’s pissed off at Alex for no reason, it’s Brad (her bestie and hot, young lawyer) and his gorgeous GF, Nina, who drive her to Vermont to meet her biological father. Nina’s not an idiot, and it’s immediately obvious to her that Brad and Alex are low-key in love, so she gets the fuck outta there. After a few beers at a juke bar, Alex and Brad have a rowdy, cathartic dance party to TingTings’ “That’s Not My Name,” and they hook up that night.

Although these two encounter a few obstacles before coming back to each other, they do end up together, of course. Alex shows up at Brad’s house to tell him she wants to be “a lot more” than friends. She knows she’s in love with him because she can answer yes to all of her friend’s true love test questions: Is he kind? Can I tell him everything in my heart? Does he help me become the best version of myself? Can I imagine him as the father of my children? Happy for these fictional icons <3.
