In truly shocking news this week, Nina Dobrev and Shaun White ended their engagement and broke up after five years together. The nation’s shook because the Vampire Diaries queen and the Olympic gold medalist snowboarder seemed to have an amazing, rock solid relationship. They were first linked in 2019, moved in together during the pandemic era, and got engaged in October 2024. At the time, Nina posted engagement photos of them sharing a kiss under a floral arch. “RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé 💍♾️,” she wrote in her caption. (That post is now unpinned on her IG.)
In March, Nina revealed that she and Shaun weren’t planning their wedding just yet. “I really want to enjoy it and not rush that process,” she told E!. “We’re just enjoying being engaged at this point and being in that sort of phase because a lot of your life is—you have a boyfriend for half of your life and then you have a husband for half of your life, but the fiancé period is very short.”

Nina’s latest TikTok has fans convinced that the breakup was messy — and Shaun’s fault. On September 6, she shared a video with the audio, “How do you sleep at night knowing people don’t like you?” Nina mouthed along to the response: “With no underwear, in case they wanna kiss my ass.”
The audio continued, “What’s your advice for women trying to fix their man?” And Nina lipsynced, “Listen, Bob the Builder, he’s got 10 other women trying to fix him too, and you all look like a damn construction crew.”

Obviously, this video doesn’t actually tell us what happened, but fans were quick to share their interpretations. “Subtext here: he cheated,” one fan speculated in the comments. Another wrote, “ohhhhhh he fucked UP,” and someone else requested, “Get her on Call Her Daddy now😭😭😭.” (Yes, please.)
At the moment, there isn’t too much info about what led to Shaun and Nina’s split. When the news broke, a source told People that the breakup was “a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another.”
Whatever happened, it seems like it went down during the first week of September. The exes were last spotted together on August 31, holding hands and running errands in Los Angeles. The following week, Nina posed on the Eternity premiere red carpet sans her 5 carat diamond engagement ring.
