When they say it’s important to always remember Instagram is just a highlight reel, they really mean it. You never know what’s going on behind very expensive, custom-built closed doors — even the most beloved influencer’s private life. That message struck a sobering chord of truth when the husband of popular Mama & Tata influencer Candice Miller, Brandon Miller, died by suicide in July of 2024. Unbeknownst to their thousands of loyal followers who consumed picture after picture of the couple’s gorgeous Hamptons life, the Millers had serious financial problems behind the scenes.

While followers knew them to have very successful careers (Candice promoted her lifestyle brand Mama & Tata online, and Brandon was a managing partner at a real estate equity company, as reported by People), Brandon had taken out multiple massive loans and sold properties in response to hidden unmanageable debt, according to the New York Times. Now eyes are back on Mama & Tata’s latest travel plans after Page Six broke that Candice Miller left NYC for a new start in Miami.

Following the traumatic death of her husband Brandon, real estate reports show that Candice has put the Millers’ 15.5 million dollar Hamptons home on the market. The home, located in the wealthy neighborhood of Water Mill, has seven bedrooms, ten bathrooms, five fireplaces, and a pool, all spread out over 8,000 square feet on 1.12 acres. Upon a potential sale, the hefty profit could likely help cover some of the significant debt left behind. Since Candice’s newest Upper East Side residence was rented after the sale of their Tribeca home, the Hamptons house could’ve been the last major anchor to her old life in New York. Friends echoed that thought when telling Page Six Candice was “over New York” and headed to Miami to enroll her kids there before school starts in the fall.

Candice married Brandon Miller in 2009, and started the lifestyle brand Mama & Tata with her sister in 2016. (Candice was “mama,” her sister Jenna Crespi was “tata,” the aunt.) The Instagram account featured their frequent travels all around the world to luxurious destinations like the Amalfi Coast. The couple’s Midsummer Night’s Dream-themed 10th-anniversary party in 2019 was a glamorous event of the season that would make any one of her 80,000 followers drool in envy. Even after the 2021 sale of their Tribeca townhouse, Candice still had plenty of material to post about their lifestyle: they rented their Upper East Side apartment for $47K a month (decorated with $100K of furniture rentals). Those followers are now without an inside look at Candice’s life, since her social accounts and website are currently offline amid the Miami move.
