One bride did exactly that and shared her dreamy wish list with all of TikTok for inspiration. No problem, right? Wrong, if you ask a group of TikTok trolls who believe requesting bougie wedding registry gifts is out of touch. But, actually, brides should add whatever TF they want on wedding registries. This month a small creator named Kayla Rose shared a video detailing some pretty expensive wish list items she hoped to receive from generous guests who might need help planning what to gift her couple. Kayla captioned the video “Things off our registry I will actually be devestated [sic] if we don’t receive,” with a bunch of crying emojis, clearly noting the sentiment was hella melodramatic. Some of the high-end items included in the now-deleted video were a KitchenAid stand mixer, $169 Crate and Barrel stemware, a Dyson vacuum, and a nearly $400 Dutch oven.

Kayla having the ~audacity~ to merely present these options to her loved ones for some reason deeply ruffled the feathers of one viral creator named Cali (who has made a name for herself by sharing her opinions on green screen). Cali took issue with Kayla suggesting she could possibly “need” these objectively lavish items because a bride should only nudge her guests to buy “reasonable” gifts.

Cali went so hard at ridiculing Kayla’s somewhat ambitious wedding registry in her stitch that Kayla claimed she was flooded with trolls spamming her with hate, including alleged death threats??? (If you are losing that much sleep over a stranger’s nuptials, I’m going to need you to reevaluate literally everything).

In response, Kayla Rose uploaded a second video sharing all of the more chill items she also included for her guests, like a stainless steel measuring cup set and a very cutsie salt cellar. After several days of backlash to the backlash, Cali took her video down to stop the madness in Kayla’s comment section.

Is it frowned upon to add expensive stuff to your wedding registry?

You should add whatever gifts you want for your wedding, including pricier items, to your wedding registry without feeling guilty. Why? No one is being forced to buy them! Unless you’re delusional enough to add an original Picasso to the list, most people will scroll past what they can’t afford and select something in their budget from the range of choices you’ll graciously select. In fact, people who aren’t interested in caving to your style whims will probably just write a check anyway.

Times are tough (I mean, they’re always tough, let’s be real), but it’s v natural to feel weird about being self-centered in a cost-of-living crisis. The reality is a wedding is extremely self-centered in that it’s all about celebrating you. As it should be!! If people celebrated love in medieval times right after their king was beheaded in the town square and the village was subject to famine, I’m pretty sure it’ll be okay if your great uncle knows you would like a pair of marble salt and pepper shakers.

Asking for boring shit you don’t even want to try to be polite is a much bigger waste of money than sharing what could actually make you happy. In the worst-case scenario, your dream items go unbought, and you find the dupes in the sales section.
