A wise blonde once said, “I’m a homewrecker I’m a slut / I got death threats filling up semi-trucks / Tell me who I am, guess I don’t have a choice / All because I liked a boy.” And although it wasn’t Ariana Grande who said that (@Espresso-level fans, that’s a Sabrina Carpenter song), the lyrics certainly apply to her situation. As I’m sure you recall, TikTok and Twitter folks had a lot to say at the start of Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater’s relationship. There were unfounded rumors that Ariana cheated on her ex-husband, Dalton Gomez, and Ethan Slater cheated on his ex-wife, Lilly Jay. Not to mention, people enjoy relentlessly making fun of Ethan and mocking Ariana for dating him. Understandably, Ariana and Ethan have mostly kept their relationship private, but the “yes, and?” singer just opened up about their romance and the online bullying. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Ariana Grande responded to rumors that she and Ethan Slater cheated on their exes.
During her Vanity Fair interview, Ariana reflected on tabloids and fans creating a dark narrative about her relationship with Ethan. “The most disappointing part was to see so many people believe the worst version of it,” she explained, adding, “There couldn’t be a less accurate depiction of a human being than the one that the tabloids spread about him.”
It seems like these two are going strong, because Ariana couldn’t stop gushing about the SpongeBob actor. “No one on this earth tries harder or spreads themselves thinner to be there for the people that he loves and cares about,” she told Vanity Fair about her BF. According to the Grammy winner, “There is no one on this earth with a better heart, and that is something that no bullshit tabloid can rewrite in real life.” Listen, I’m just happy she’s happy, and this relationship helped inspire Eternal Sunshine, so no complaints from me.
Somehow, it’s already been over a year. Ariana and Ethan met on the Wicked set, of course, and they were first romantically linked in July 2023. To be clear, they started dating after they both split from their former spouses. Ariana’s bestie and Wicked costar, Bowen Yang, commented on the cheating and homewrecker rumors during a March 2024 episode of his podcast, Las Culturistas. “The narrative is wrong,” he clarified. “[Ariana’s] not even outwardly saying that, but the narrative has been incorrect and people have even retracted things in these stories with no fucking apology to the people who are involved.” What I’m hearing is: She would very much like to be excluded from this narrative. Seriously though, no one is serving Moo Deng or the truth like Bowen… protect this king at all costs.
