Welp, TikTok is convinced that Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater are no longer together after about a year and a half of dating. I’m confused by this rumor, ’cause I thought the next Ari/Ethan relationship update would be an engagement announcement. The Wicked costars seemed madly in love when they attended all those award shows and Wicked premieres and press events together. Plus, they’re always gushing about each other in interviews and immediately liking each other’s Instagram posts. So, what changed? Did Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater actually break up? I looked into these TikTok rumors.
Apparently, the breakup rumor is 100 percent based on blind items, so I’d take it with a grain of salt. (The sources are anonymous and none of the claims are confirmed.) One blind item from this month reads, “This A list singer/sometimes actress has moved on from her boyfriend.” This one followed a January blind item about how Ariana’s been “distant” and Ethan’s the one who’s “insisted” on being seen with her in public.

Mind you, Ari and Ethan were last seen together at the Oscars, which was literally less than a month ago. They posed for photos together and generally seemed affectionate throughout the night. It was definitely not giving broken up or ~about to break up~. Also, they still follow each other on Instagram and Ethan liked Ariana’s Eternal Sunshine Deluxe teaser that she posted just yesterday. I don’t know why there are all these negative blind items about their relationship right now, but I feel pretty confident that these two are still together as of now.
“No one on this earth tries harder or spreads themselves thinner to be there for the people that he loves and cares about. There is no one on this earth with a better heart, and that is something that no bullshit tabloid can rewrite in real life,” Ariana said about Ethan during a September 2024 interview with Vanity Fair. In an October 2024 chat with GQ, Ethan called the “yes, and?” singer an “amazing performer” and said he’s “really, really proud” of her.
Considering the second Wicked movie is coming later this year and Ari and Ethan presumably have lots more promo events to attend together, it would super awkward if they did break up. Fortunately, all signs (except some random blind items) point to: All is well with Ari and Boq.
