Does Messy Queen Belly Finally Pick A Brother In ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Season 3?

After my month-long Fiji vacay (via Love Island USA), I’m mentally headed to Cousins Beach for more sunshine, romance, and chaos. We had to wait two long years for season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty, but the first two episodes finally dropped on July 16. Is the Belly-Conrad-Jeremiah love triangle slightly incestuous and concerning? Absolutely. But I fear I remain fully invested in their story.

The kiddos are in college at the start of season 3, and Belly’s in a committed relationship with Jeremiah, which hurts my #TeamConrad heart. They both attend the fictional Finch College, while Conrad’s off being a genius at Stanford University. (IDK why he gets a real school and the other two get a fake school, but I’m so proud of him.) Obviously, the central conflict of the show is Belly being in love with both of the Fisher brothers, so the fandom still has the same burning question: Which brother does Belly choose in The Summer I Turned Pretty? Does she find her way back to Conrad? Or is Jer really The One after all? Here’s what we know, based on the book and the first episodes of season 3.

*Spoilers ahead.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3: Does Belly Choose Conrad Or Jeremiah?

Does Jeremiah Cheat On Belly In The Book?

If you’ve seen the first episodes of season 3, you know Jeremiah cheats on Belly in the show. And yes, I fear he made the same stupid-ass decision in the book. In We’ll Always Have Summer, Belly overhears a girl from Jeremiah’s sister sorority, Lacie Barone, saying she hooked up with him in Cabo during spring break. (The show soundtrack includes “Lacy” by Olivia Rodrigo, which is just… chef’s kiss.) Of course, Belly then freaks out, confronts Jeremiah, sobs, and breaks up with him. He tries to explain that they were on a break when it happened, but Belly doesn’t see it that way.

Why Do Belly And Jeremiah Call Off The Wedding?

As TSITP readers know, Belly and Jeremiah ultimately move past the whole cheating issue and get engaged in the book. However, they don’t make it to the altar. Why? Say it with me: Conrad. The weekend of Belly and Jeremiah’s wedding, Conrad finds out about Jeremiah’s whole Lacie transgression. The brothers get into a huge fight, Jeremiah punches him, and Conrad winds up confessing his love to Belly. He asks her to call off the wedding.

Jeremiah realizes that Conrad is Belly’s soulmate after all. “That’ll always be Con,” he says. “I won’t be your excuse. You’ve got to see for yourself, or you’ll never be able to let him go.” Thus, the wedding’s called off.

Does Belly End Up With Conrad?

In We’ll Always Have Summer, yeah, Belly ends up with Conrad. A few years after the Jeremiah wedding debacle, a 23-year-old Belly gets married to Conrad at Cousins Beach. At the very end of the book, Conrad carries her into the ocean and says, “I go wherever you go.”

But will the show end the same way? That’s still TBD. “There are definitely changes,” author and showrunner Jenny Han teased to Entertainment Weekly. “There are surprises. And there are things that aren’t exactly like the books.” Hmmm. I kinda hope Belly just chooses herself at this point, but we’ll see…

The Summer I Turned Pretty finale episode will air on September 17 on Prime Video.

Is This The Last Season Of The Summer I Turned Pretty?

Yup, season 3 is the final season. However! There just might be a TSITP spinoff series in our future. When asked about that possibility during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jenny Han replied, “Never say never. If I feel very inspired by something, then that would be really exciting to me. I really love this cast and this world.” Looove to hear it.
