Are we really still arguing about Team Conrad vs. Team Jeremiah in the year of our lord 2025? First of all, there’s an obvious fucking answer out of those two: Conrad. He’s a gorgeous, intelligent, mysterious man who has way more chemistry with Belly than Jeremiah ever has. I said what I said. But second of all, why the hell are these brothers still fighting about Belly after all these years? These incest-adjacent shenanigans began back when Belly was 15 years old, and somehow, they’re still going on six years later. (Yes, there’s a time jump in season 3.) This diva can vote and go to bars now, but she still hasn’t figured out how to date anyone outside of the Fisher family. It’s deeply concerning, and if I were a Fisher brother, I’d have cut her off a long time ago.

For three books and three seasons, Belly strings along Conrad and Jeremiah as their mother battles cancer and eventually dies. She’s immature, self-centered, incapable of making up her goddamn mind, and has yet to demonstrate a single interesting personality trait. Please allow me to process my rage with this unhinged rant about why Belly is objectively insufferable in The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Belly’s definitely broken some kind of record for the longest anyone’s ever taken to make a decision. Sis has known these boys for her entire life. She’s hooked up with both of them (cringing out loud). She’s spent endless quality time with both of them. There is ZERO excuse for her to STILL be wishy-washy and confused when it comes to the Fisher brothers. If Belly does indeed identify as poly, she needs to ditch Cousins Beach for Bushwick and find some he/theys who are also poly and not related to each other. That’s my professional advice.

Belly’s indecisiveness is really hurting people! She’s completely ruined the brothers’ relationship, which is selfish and awful in itself, but it’s particularly cruel because they just lost their mom and need each other. She hasn’t allowed them to grieve their mother in peace and lean on each other for support. Instead, she keeps adding more and more turmoil to their lives.

Her almost-breakup scene with Jeremiah in season 3 is actually giving me nightmares. When Belly’s sobbing about his infidelity and screams, “You know that I’ve only ever been with one other person!” and it’s his BROTHER. I-

Fortunately, lots of people on TikTok seem to share the opinion that Belly is somewhat diabolical. “The summer I ruined a family,” one person commented on a video criticizing Belly for how she moves with these boys. That’d be a more accurate title, for real. Another person added, “Team leave those boys ALONE.” Yup, yup, yup.

WTF Is Up With The Name, Belly?

In what world is “Belly” an acceptable nickname for someone over the age of six? It was alarming enough that she was still using this name at 15 and 16, but at the ripe age of 21 years old?! GIRL. I’m trying to imagine walking into a college class and saying, “Hi, my name’s Belly.” What did the name Isabella (a perfectly lovely, grown-up name) ever do to her? Even if Belly did have an incredible personality, I don’t understand how anyone’s supposed to be taking her seriously when that’s the name she still goes by.

It’s the burning question on all of our minds. Here we are on season 3 of this show, and if you asked me to describe Belly’s personality, I’d really have to sit down and give it a think. Sure, she has girl-next-door vibes, but she’s not particularly nice, funny, or charming. Outside of her constant Fisher brothers drama, who TF is Belly? I literally can’t name a single hobby or passion of hers. Her jobs are just Beach (the Cousins one) and Fisher Brothers Love Triangle. She’s spent the last six years bouncing between Conrad and Jeremiah instead of using that formative time to actually get to know herself. If we were to remove the words “Conrad” and “Jer” from her vocabulary, what would this girl say? It’s a mystery.
