Here Are The Chances We’re Getting A ‘Dying For Sex’ Season 2

I could watch Molly and Nikki be besties forever.

To say that Dying for Sex takes audiences on a journey is an understatement. On the FX series starring Michelle Williams, her character Molly learns she has a terminal cancer diagnosis. But unlike a lot of other stories about cancer that might then lean into melodrama, Dying for Sex zigs instead of zags. Molly takes that diagnosis and turns it into the empowered feminist version of a Judd Apatow movie by choosing to explore her sexuality in all — and I mean all — its forms.

So yeah, Dying for Sex takes audiences on a journey from sadness to horniness, as Molly ventures out in search of an elusive orgasm, with her supportive bestie Nikki (Jenny Slate) by her side along the way. I mean, she’s not literally by her side for all the sex stuff, but she’s emotionally by her side along the way and… you get what I mean.

Anyway, like all journeys, Molly’s comes to an end by the eighth episode of Dying for Sex, when it circles back to bittersweet sadness. Dying for Sex ends with some pretty definitive closure, but dedicated fans still can’t help but wonder if there’s going to be more to Molly’s journey. Here’s what we know about a possible Dying for Sex season 2.

Dying for Sex is based on the real-life story of Molly Kochan, who sadly died in 2019. Molly on the show dies, too, at the end of the last episode. With her terminal diagnosis, it’s expected, and the whole show’s premise is built around the idea of her going after what she wants before she dies, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s any less emotional when that final scene happens.

The TV show was conceived as a limited series, meaning that the producers only had plans for the single season. They designed it to end with Molly’s death at the end of the batch of eight episodes, which is a pretty final ending. The one season of Dying for Sex tells Molly’s story start to finish, not really leaving much room for a second season.

But, in a perfect world where we got to see more of Molly and Nikki, wouldn’t it be cool for season 2 to be a prequel, showing the beginnings of their friendship? Molly’s journey might end with Dying for Sex, but that doesn’t mean we can’t indulge a little wishful thinking for more.
