Sarah Halle Corey is an entertainment writer and screenwriter with a passion for rom-coms, 1990s-2000s nostalgia, and niche pop culture deep dives. She's based in LA, but has roots in New York and Chicago, and so she has really complicated feelings about pizza.

Deborah Vance and Ava Daniels may be fighting to stay in the TV game on Hacks, but their real-life counterparts have no such problem. Hacks has been officially renewed for a fifth season. And, it’s just in time for audiences to see how the first season of the show-within-a-show Late Night With Deborah Vance shakes out at the end of season 4. At least we know there’s more Hacks coming in the future.

The HBO series, which stars Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, premiered on HBO Max in May 2021 and now with this fifth season renewal, it’s the longest-running show in HBO Max history. Sure, HBO Max has only been around a few years, but we gotta celebrate the wins where we can!

In the past, the creators of Hacks have been open about having an “ideal” five-season plan for the show, so they’ll be able to follow through with that vision. “We pitched the very last scene in the very last episode when we were pitching the show, and we’ve always had a pretty clear vision of what the tentpoles of each season would be,” creator (and the guy who plays Jimmy the manager) Paul Downs told The Hollywood Reporter.

Since the creators had a five-year plan in mind for Hacks, there’s a good chance this fifth season could be the last one. No word on whether or not it’ll be there swan song yet, but here’s everything we do know about season 5 of Hacks.

Yep! On May 27, 2025, HBO Max officially renewed Hacks for season 5. Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder helped announce the new season on Instagram:

We don’t know exactly what the story of Hacks season 5 will be, but as always, Ava and Deborah’s love/hate relationship will be front and center.

The official cast hasn’t been announced, but it’ll probably include series regulars Jean Smart as Deborah, Hannah Einbinder as Ava, Carl Clemons-Hopkins as Marcus, Megan Stalter as Kayla, Paul W. Downs as Jimmy, Rose Abdoo as Josefina, and Mark Indelicato as Damien. I’m also hoping we see the return of Robby Hoffman as Randi, Kayla and Jimmy’s assistant, because we always need more Robby Hoffman on our screens.

When is the premiere date for Hacks season 5?

No word yet on the season 5 premiere date, but Hacks usually begins its seasons in May, so I’m guessing (and hoping) we get a May 2026 release.
