Jonathan Bailey was just named People‘s 2025 Sexiest Man Alive, and frankly, no one’s ever deserved the title more. “It’s a huge honor,” he told the magazine. “Obviously, I’m incredibly flattered. And it’s completely absurd.” I can’t think of anything less absurd, TBH.

True love, I think it’s called. Has there ever been a more charming human? If I was a student at Shiz (the movie version), my major would just be chasing after Fiyero, I fear. Much like Cynthia Erivo was born to belt “Defying Gravity” while FLYING and Ariana Grande was born to high kick to “Popular” and make us giggle nonstop, Jonathan was born to portray Oz’s resident heartthrob. Jonathan doesn’t speak about his personal life too often, but he did suggest that he was single during his Chicken Shop Date interview last July. When host Amelia Dimoldenberg asked about his relationship status, the actor replied, “I’m available. It’s just, I think there’s a genetic predisposition.”
He also sort of alluded to being single when speaking to British Vogue in December 2024. Jonathan opened up about becoming a parent one day, sharing, “I want to make sure I’m going to be present. I’m reading books on adoption. I might co-parent with a woman, but I’m thinking it will be with a man.” Later in the interview, he told the outlet he was “not discussing” his love life.
During his recent Sexiest Man Alive interview, Jonathan was asked about his ideal date. “I love a walk and I love a dinner,” he replied. “If it’s like date 100, I think like Lego and pizza.” (Obsessed.) The actor noted that “communication” and “transparency” are very important to him in relationships.
In 2019, there were rumors that Jonathan was dating actor James Ellis, and those rumors were pretty much confirmed at the Olivier Awards that year. When Jonathon won for his role in the West End musical, Company, he shared a kiss with James before heading to the stage to accept his award. The Bridgerton star opened up about the importance of LGBTQ+ representation in his acceptance speech. “You know, at a time where acknowledging the very existence of LGBTQ people in our schools is being questioned, we have been able to, as a company, show a lovely and celebratory snapshot of gay love,” Jonathan reflected to the award show audience. “That LGBTQ people really aren’t that different. We’re not that different. We are just as anxious, and we’re just as flawed and desperate to fall in love as everyone else.” He thanked the cast and dedicated his award to them.
Although Jonathan did have this one adorable PDA moment with James, he mostly keeps his love life out of the public eye. In December 2023, the actor revealed to The Evening Standard that he was seeing a “lovely man,” but didn’t offer more details. “It’s not secret, but it’s private,” he explained. “Having a private life is, for me, completely critical. I don’t know if I would be able to be as confident to speak out on other things if I felt that my whole life was up for grabs.”
