Lewis Hamilton is a guy who knows how to make history. The British racing driver became the first Black Formula One driver in history, and he’s gone on to win seven F1 World Drivers’ Championship Titles. Now, as a co-chair of the 2025 Met Gala, with the dress code “Tailored For You,” Lewis is also helping make fashion history.

Lewis’ personal style is really important to him, so it makes sense that he’s taken on a big role in the fashion industry’s biggest night. “When I first signed with F1 I was only allowed to wear suits and team kits, and it was horrible. I didn’t feel comfortable, and I didn’t feel like I was able to be myself,” he told Vogue ahead of the 2025 Met Gala. “Eventually, I had the courage to push beyond those boundaries and say, ‘Look, I want to turn up to the track in what I want to wear. I’m here now—you can’t get rid of me or change the way I dress.’ The pushback was massive, but when the sport saw the impact of my little runway, other drivers started doing the same thing.”

I love the idea of Lewis turning the raceway into his own personal runway. We all know racing is truly the center of his life, so much so that he barely has time to settle down with a serious relationship.

“I’m really just super focused on work,” Lewis told Vanity Fair in 2022. “I’ve realized that I can’t do two things or three things at once, I’ve got to focus on one. I really wanted to go through a growth process of getting myself to a point where I’m happy on my own, comfortable in my space. So that if I ever do meet someone, it’s an addition, rather than ‘I need you in my life.'”

He may be mostly focused on his career right now, but that doesn’t mean the 40-year-old hasn’t squeezed in time with a few Hollywood icons on his dating roster. Lewis spent time with Rihanna in her home country of Barbados in 2015, but this is another friendship, as he confirmed with E! News. “You know, I’ve known Ri for a long time,” he said. “We’ve been friends for a while. We get to hang out every now and again but otherwise we’ve just been friends.”

Throughout 2016, Lewis and Rita were spotted on several dinner dates, and Rita posted a now-deleted Instagram of them singing together. They never fully addressed their relationship with the press, which makes me think this was a romance they were keeping private.
