When Bravo dropped the new cast photo for season 18 of The Real Housewives of Orange County and I saw a fresh face amongst my favorite SoCal drama queens, I immediately raced to my handy dandy laptop to launch an obligatory new housewife background check. Upon discovering multiple pictures of newbie Housewife Katie Ginella holding a dirty martini, I quickly gathered she may soon become one of my many middle-aged parasocial Bravo besties. Katie has a big job ahead of her with joining the heavily stacked season 18 cast. We have the Wicked Witch of the West Coast, Tamra Judge, her old frenemy Jesus Jugs AKA Alexis Bellino, and a post-DUI Shannon who is still dealing with the breakup from John Janssen, Alexis’ new very public lover. Plus Vicki is appearing as a friend of the cast, Sutton Stracke dropped by and Teddi Mellencamp is there for some reason, too. Still, Katie has the opportunity to do something so brave: provide a lighthearted new storyline outside of the capital D drama that makes us fall in love with her. If that means butting heads with professional champs gatekeeper Heather Dubrow, so be it. In fact, fingers crossed that’s true because we always need someone to keep the elders on their toes. Katie is 40 years old as of April 2024. She shares a birthday with her oldest child Kaili, who is 20-years-old.
Matt Ginella is a golf sports commentator and journalist, who serves as an editor for the NBC Sports Golf page. Matt also runs a production company called Firepit Productions with an affiliated Substack and a podcast.
Katie is also a sports reporter who covers Golf, presumably how she met her hubbs, Matt. She also is a mother of four children. Three of her older children (Kaili, Gavin, and Maxon) are from a previous marriage with her ex-husband Andrew, as confirmed by court records detailed by Yahoo. Matt and Katie’s youngest child Bandon (named after a golf course) is seven years old. RHOC isn’t Katie’s first stint with reality TV: in 2017 she was featured in an episode of Say Yes To The Dress. Katie is new to the OC area but is apparently a professional friend of Bravolebrity and reality stars in general. She is close pals with RHOBH fashion fiend Sutton Stracke, RHOA’s Cynthia Bailey, and Hills legend Audrina Patridge, in addition to Gina, who brought her into the OC mix.
