After capturing the hearts of the nation on the first ever season of The Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist announced on Good Morning America that they’re officially divorcing after three months of marriage. People were shocked. Hearts were broken. Friday mornings were ruined. Gerry told Juju Chang in a sit down interview on GMA: “Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to, dissolve our marriage.” Not a typo. Yes, he said “dissolve our marriage.” That’s a new one. Juju asks what we were all thinking and forces Gerry to clarify, “Get a divorce?” Gerry confirms.
Theresa tells GMA, “We have received so much love and support from so many people who watched The Golden Bachelor, and I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope. We want none of that to change for anybody.” Devastating. So why exactly are Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist divorcing? Here’s what we know.
Gerry explains, “The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families … So we look at these situations and I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to, to live apart.”

“We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at homes after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision.”
So without, like, fully saying it, Gerry and Theresa split because they’re happier apart.

Gerry and Theresa held hands during the entirety of the interview, it felt both sweet and a little strange for a couple announcing their divorce.
“I still love this person,” Gerry said. “There’s no doubt in my mind, I still am in love with her. I root for her every day.” Theresa also said, “Yeah, I still love him.”
Asking the important questions! And you bet your ass they did! They both said they highly recommend it to others. Also, when asked about what they’ll be doing with the rings, they said they’ll be giving them back. Theresa laughed and said, “I think that’s the rule.” And then Gerry ripped out our hearts by adding, “But you know what? We don’t have to give back the memories,”

They really don’t want their story. to deter people from feeling hopeful and finding love at any age, Theresa said: “Stay in it, stay hopeful, because we are.”
