Everything To Know About The New Golden Bachelor, Mel Owens

I have a feeling this is gonna be a wonderful season.

The second-ever Golden Bachelor has just been announced, and it’s NFL player-turned lawyer Mel Owens! The news was revealed during Disney Entertainment Television’s April 22 Get Real event. I’m loving this casting. Mel has an interesting backstory and a very solid career, and he seems truly ready to find love. That’s a pretty rare combo these days. (He’s not just trying to promote a new single like some people… *cough* Grant Ellis.)

According to a press release from ABC, Mel is seeking a love “rooted in the simple joys of companionship — sharing life’s everyday moments, making plans for the future and growing stronger together as a couple.” He’s excited to meet a woman who shares those values, and he can’t wait to “find that perfect teammate he’s been waiting for in his golden years.”

And yes, he’s been married before. Mel met his first wife after he started working as a lawyer, and they welcomed two kids together. His marriage ended around the same time his father died, and since then, he’s primarily focused on being a great father to his sons.

Here’s everything to know about the new Golden Bachelor, Mel Owens, including his age, job, and net worth.

Golden Bachelor Mel Owens: Age, Net Worth, Job, Income

How Old Is The New Golden Bachelor, Mel Owens?

Mel is 66 years old — a spring chicken compared to the inaugural Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner, who went on the show at 72. The first Golden Bachelorette, Joan Vassos, was only 61 during her season (barely golden if you ask me).

Mel Owens’ Net Worth And Job

While Mel’s exact net worth is unknown, the dude’s gotta be crazy loaded at this point. He had a 10-year career in the NFL, playing for the Los Angeles Rams, and that was just the start of his career. After retiring from football, Mel worked as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch and then became a founding partner at NBO Law. As a lawyer, he’s helped clients seek justice for sports injuries. According to NBO Law’s website, the new Golden Bachelor specializes in “the field of workers’ compensation, sports law, sports injuries and disability benefits.”

Let’s do a little girl math, shall we? When Mel was a football player in the ’80s, NFL athletes were making about $160,000. Surely, he was making at least six figures at Merrill Lynch, and while law firm partner compensation obviously varies, it’s usually over the one milli mark. Not to mention, Mel’s likely to make an extra $100,000 to $250,000 during his season of The Golden Bachelor.

Welp, let’s hope the contestants are in it for love… and not just Mel’s (presumably) many millions.
