I Tried Chipotle’s Lip Stain And Was Able To Eat A Whole-Ass Burrito Without Reapplying

The best thing to happen to Chipotle since extra guac.

I don’t go anywhere without a little bit of lipstick on. Not just a balm. Or a gloss. A full lip. So, when I found out that Wonderskin, known for that viral TikTok peel and reveal lip stain, had partnered with Chipotle to introduce a limited-edition lip stain, I was ready to give it a chance. Admittedly, the name isn’t the most creative – it’s Lipotle – but the idea behind the product intrigued me. The stain was marketed as smudge-proof and made for “enjoying burritos on the go.” As a major burrito-eater and lipstick connoisseur, naturally, I had to try it.

When I initially applied it, a Shrek-green masque settled on my lips. The texture applies like lip gloss and quickly hardens into a foil-like texture, similar to Wonderskin’s other lip stain technology. Part of me was tempted to keep the initial color for brat summer, but I was interested to see what color formed beneath. After roughly 30 seconds, I start to peel it away – a surprisingly satisfying feeling. Underneath was a nude pink color.

As someone who loves a bold red lip, I wanted something stronger, so I reapplied. The box instructions said 60 seconds would leave me with a darker rose color. I waited the allotted time and sprayed the Wonder Blading Activator to seal in the pigment. My lips emerged triumphant. While darker, they still looked natural — a nice change of pace if you want more natural-looking coverage. With a little added lip gloss for some glam, I was ready to pick up my burrito order. (You never know who is running the cash register!)

Oh, you didn’t think I would test it with a real burrito? Think again! Like I said, I take my lipstick very seriously. I went with a double-wrapped little number, thick with guac, because this lip stain was inspired by National Avocado Day. I knew it was going to get messy, so I prepped with a pile of napkins, fully expecting to wipe away my hard-earned work. Let me tell you, I’ve been disappointed by lip stains before.

After a few bites, I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand without thinking — like an animal. There was no smudge in sight, and no pigment was left on my hand. I was giddy with the results. (Yes, I’m basically a scientist.) As I gobbled away the rest of my meal, I continuously checked my reflection like the self-obsessed gal that I am and was left with the same level of color despite my discarded napkin pile growing taller. (Sexy, right?) With both my stomach and my vanity satisfied, I can say that Lipotle passed the test.

Shocked that it actually worked (no offense, Chipotle!), I looked into the science a bit more. What makes this product different from the countless others? The formula is water-based, so it won’t dry out your lips like alcohol-based dyes typically used for long-lasting color. The mist that I sprayed over the green masque triggered some kind of reaction (which explains the light tingling) that seals in the pigments, making it waterproof and transfer-proof.

On the walk back from my local Chipotle, I realized the lip stain didn’t feel heavy or stiff, which was an added benefit in the stifling heat. I’m a big fan of any beauty product that won’t sweat right off. My only note is that the packaging swears by 10 hours of smudge-proof coverage, which is a pretty good estimate. Still, I’d say I reapplied roughly five hours in, but that also included tackling a massive burrito. That’s a win in my book.

P.S. If you see me at Brave Rave next weekend with Lipotle’s green masque applied, no, you didn’t.
