Win Halloween With These Iconic Costumes For Besties
There is no greater joy in life than dressing up for Halloween with your bestie. It’s the ultimate confirmation that they actually like you and don’t just tolerate your existence. Walking into that party, club, or bodega in matching costumes will inform everyone else that, yes, this is your bestie, and yes, she is THE COOLEST. I have been begging my bestie for years to do a couple costume with me, but she refuses (until she reads this, I’m sure!!!). So please live out my fantasy and wear one of these iconic group costumes this Halloween!!! And obviously I included options for trios and larger groups of friends, if you’re lucky enough to have those in your life.
Glinda and Elphaba
This has always been a classic duo costume for Halloween, but now it’s also a RELEVANT one. As we eagerly await the release of Wicked (Part 1) in December, bring a lil musical magical to your Halloween party with this bestie costume. Now besties tend to argue about who will be the Elphaba of the pair, as there’s no way around the fact that you’ll end up with green paint everywhere (yes, everywhere). But Elphaba is the MAIN CHARACTER of the duo. Plus, you can then make thinly veiled comments to hot people about getting green paint on them iykyk. Aside from green paint, your Elphaba costume just required a black dress and a witch hat. As for Glinda, it’s classic fairy princess, so a pink dress, tiara, and curls. Bonus points for a staff or glittery stick. Feel free to break into song together.
Only Murders in the Building trio

As a proud member of a trio groupchat with a stupid name, I knew I had to include costumes for threesomes. We’re going to start with TV’s fav mixing of the old and young: the three main characters in Only Murders in the Building. This is ideal for groups of two men and a woman, but def not limited to it. The Mabel should go for yellow and brown colors, ideally with a furry coat and big headphones. The Oliver can wear jewel tones and a flamboyant scarf. The Charles is best off in a button down shirt and sweater combo, with a lil fedora. To really sell it, you could bring mini mics and pretend to interview everyone all night, and make a podcast of the party. Or be lame and just paint your hands red, I guess — it feels like nobody wants to work these days!!
Sharkboy and Lavagirl
Taylor Lautner, what are you doing here?!?! This iconic duo is so hot and yet so quirky, a rare combo I swear. Forget the gender roles of this duo, anyone can be a shark, and anyone can be lava. You can get premade costumes, or if you’re going DIY *cough being cheap*, you can go for an all-silver getup with a shark fin and drawn on teeth, accompan ied by an all-pink getup and pink wig. Trust me, the right people will know. Anyone who doesn’t recognize this reference is too young for you, so it beats checking IDs.
Sabrina and Jenna

Sabrina obviously made an appearance on our list of the best IT girl costumes, but she doesn’t have to shine alone, she can be part of a duo fit. Show off your pop culture knowledge by going as Sabrina and Jenna from the “Taste” music video. For the simplest outfit, dress as their final funeral looks in long black gowns with gloves and a lil hat or veil. For a more showstopping outfit, dress as the girlies post-murder. Sabrina is in all white with a fierce blood stain across her midriff, and Jenna is in a black midi dress with a chainsaw (idk ask your dad for one?). Finally, there’s the hospital scene, with your Sabrina is a pink night gown with a big blood stain, and Jenna in a [slutty] nurse costume with an eyepatch. ICONIC BEHAVIOR RIGHT HERE.
Cheetah Girls
I cannot find the words to explain the chokehold these films had on me throughout my childhood and young adolescence. You will not find a better group costume than this. The simplest way to dress up as the Cheetah Girls as a group is to recreate their sweatpants outfits, each in a different colour. Be sure to slide some cheetah print into that. Or for something lazier, just dress in intense mismatched cheetah prints lol. Bonus points for bursting into song and choreographed dance throughout the evening.

Okay, I have to clarify that despite being chronically online girlies, we are going for the 2000 film here, not the 2019 remake. I have to put my foot down. Maybe it doesn’t matter to you costume-wise, but it truly matters to me. This is a trio costume, and a fucking good one at that. It’s also painfully easy and the entire costume lies in the posing for photos. The three of you need to dress in tight, all-black clothing. A lil bit of 90s low-waist or a halter-neck top goes a long way. Leave your hair loose, and pair this look with heeled black boots and a red lippie. Feel free to go the extra mile with a toy gun (not real guns, I’m European y’all) and holsters. Or for something a lil more meta, bring in some angel wings!!!
Serena and Blair
I have to ask: were you a Serena or Blair? I was absolutely devoted to Blair but I’ve always had the sinking feeling that I’m a barely-disguised Serena. Anyway, this is an amazing Halloween costume for besties, even better if you’re the signature blonde and brunette duo. The best way to achieve a recognizable Blair and Serena outfit is to go for the classic schoolgirl look. Gossip Girl was renowned for its insane school outfits which made a complete mockery of uniforms — yes, I ate it up like kibble. Think plaid skirts, white blouses, a loose tie for Serena and a a bow for Blair. Your Blair needs to wear a headband as well, this is a non-negotiable. Be prepared to be inundated by creepy men obsessed with schoolgirls all night, soz.
Moo Deng and the Zoo Keeper

In case you had any doubts that I’m a Gen Z, here is my fav Halloween costume for the year. Moo Deng is the baby Pygmy hippo that has stolen hearts across the globe. I just love her so fucking much. And now she can be accompanied by her beloved zookeeper. It’s simple enough: purple hippo and a zookeeper! Make sure to bend down and bite your zookeeper’s knees for photos.
Spice Girls
Not to brag, but when I dressed up as the Spice Girls with friends, I was Baby Spice *smirk*. This is a costume that can only be attempted with five, as otherwise it’s like the greatest girl band ever split and that’s too heartbreaking to comprehend. We’ve got Scary Spice in leather and some form of animal print. Posh Spice is in a black mini-dress and heels. Baby Spice (aka ME) is in a mini dress and pigtails. Sporty Spice is in those trackies, but make it sexy with a sports bra. And finally Ginger Spice slays best in a Union Jack dress, and if not at least get her a ginger wig. To clarify, this doesn’t need to be done by only women, in fact, tossing some men into the mix makes it all the better. Also alternatively, you can go as the Spice Girls by dressing as literal spice bottles. Lol.
Bratz Dolls

Barbie is such a 2023 costume, this year we’re going for the Bratz dolls instead. Yeah, they’re misogynistic with unrealistic expectations of women, but they’re also hella cunty. Ideally, you are your pack will wear lil crop tops with the Bratz logo on it. But if that’s not your vibe, go for fluffy jackets, tiny tops, low-waist jeans or a mini skirt, and overlined lips. You can also go for the plaid Bratz vibe the Kardashians wore a couple of yeas ago. As for footwear, it needs to be big, chunky and high!
Queen of Hearts and Alice
Let’s turn our attention to a cutesy duo costume again. This is perfect for a golden retriever and black cat friendship. You can find Queen of Hearts and Alice in Wonderland costumes just about anywhere nowadays, and you can make them as cheeky or demure as you like. The key to nailing this Wonderland themed costume is to wear over the knee socks and to discuss the Taylor Swift-Diana Agon conspiracy to anyone who will listen. If your friend’s boyfriend *sigh* has to be involved, you can easily make him the Mad Hatter. To elevate your queen, add some cute red heart detailing to your makeup.
Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders
I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE PEOPLE ROCKING THIS LOOK THIS HALLOWEEN!!! Love them or hate them, it’s still a fucking obsession, baby!!! And don’t be fooled into thinking this look is only for tiny waists or toned abs, I wanna see my curvy goddesses rocking this hot outfit. The Dallas Cowboys outfit is simple: a blue shirt tied, a white waistcoat, and white booty shorts. Get some pom poms to finish it off or make your own!! Feel free to add a white cowboy hat or some rhinestones. Oh and don’t hesitate to drunkenly insinuate about your moves…
Cleo de Nile and Clawdeen Wolf
Who? Who??? Cleo de Nile and Clawdeen Wolf of Monster High, obviously!! Name a more iconic duo, I’m waiting. You will not find a more flattering or niche bestie costume, I promise you that. We’ve got Cleo in some gold capris and a gold top, with a blue scarf wrapped around. Cleopatra eyeliner and heavy on the gold jewelry. Then for Clawdeen, it’s your furriest coat, with some lilac clothes and a cat eye – meowww. Enter the room like the bad bitches you are and don’t hesitate to remind people of it.
H20 Mermaids
JUST ADD WATER. Or in this case, just add vodka!! The real way to not be like the other girls is to dress like the ultimate Y2K IT girls: the ladies of H2O. It’s a step up from dressing as mermaids, and way hotter. It also gives you a chance to throw around the word “naur.” Your mermaid tale can be a sleek fitted silk skirt, paired with a lil shell bra in the same color palette. Wet hair look and shimmery makeup and voila!!! You’re too sexy for the sea!
Challengers threeway
The easiest Halloween costume is to just reuse your current roleplay set and bring it out of the bedroom for a night. Don’t even pretend you haven’t watched that scene on repeat and dived into the wild fanfiction out there. Fuck genders for this costume, it’s all about the confidence and sex appeal. Our main girlie Tashi needs a cunty white tennis skirt, lil top, and black sunnies. Get that hair into the highest ponytail known to mankind. Then our boys are variations of sporty, with t-shirts, sweatbands, and crew neck socks. Bonus points if the three of you make out in the middle of the dancefloor, just saying.
Charli XCX and Troye Sivan
Every pop girlie needs her sidekick, and now the two of you can take on the Halloween party together. Just think of the moment the “Talk Talk” remix comes on, and the two of you can commandeer the dancefloor *chefs kiss*. Feel free to gender-bend this costume. Charli should wear a very “Brat” inspired outfit, potentially with a black wig. We’re talking dark makeup, ripped fishnets, and something that wouldn’t look out of place in a 1975 music video fifteen years ago. Troye should be in the classic white shirt and low-waist blue jeans, hair bleached if possible.
