Is Your ‘Man Of The Year’ A Total Flop? These TikToks Show You’re Not Alone

Lorde spilling, as always.

Praise the Lord, looks like Lorde is back for summer! The British babe’s new banger, “Man of the Year,” is already making waves from coast to coast, and not just musically. Unless you’re one of God’s favorites (how is it over there? Is it nice??), you’ve probably had an experience or two with a mediocre man letting you down. Well, Lorde’s new anthem has inspired women of TikTok to share their stories about 10/10 male flops, and, frankly, some of this behavior needs to be studied.

Hence, me clocking in for duty to do just that! Because even though many of these stories are seriously shitty, it’s honestly refreshing after all the boyfriend challenges (I’m still traumatized by “we listen and we don’t judge” and red flags over orange peels) to see the girliepops standing on business. So, without further ado, let’s hear it for the Man of the Year trend on TikTok.

Man of the Year TikTok Trend

Why is Man of the Year Trending on TikTok?

After Lorde released the song on May 29, 2025, the lyrics became an inspiration for a viral TikTok trend, where fans at home shared their own laughable, complicated, and heartbreaking experiences with men in their lives who have dropped the ball to an Olympic degree, from the other side of no longer dealing with those fools (yay!). In the single, Lorde sings, “Take my knife and I cut the cord / My babe can’t believe I’ve become someone else / Someone more like myself.”

This message of finally embracing the realest, strongest version of yourself resonated with baddies on TikTok who remembered the moment they stopped shrinking themselves for a dude and stood TF up. By the end of the bop, Lorde embraces the fact that she’s actually her own man of the year, a.k.a her own true love/biggest cheerleader/best friend wrapped up in one layered package. This sentiment is echoed in the TikTok trend by the girlies who have also chosen themselves instead of depending on disappointing dads and daddies. Love to see it!

Best, Funniest Man of the Year TikToks

Ohhhhh, she’s taking it.

Ghosting someone after SEVEN MONTHS and an airport pickup is loser of the year behavior, actually.

Let’s all agree, once and for all, no more giving nice guys a chance as a favor! Nice is a perk for interactions with random strangers, not relationships with grown men.

Message to fathers (and parents) everywhere: parenthood isn’t a kids’ sports league! You don’t get an award just for participating.

No, but why does it always take hours (sometimes days) of conversation for your girlfriend/wife/baby’s mother to become a topic of discussion?! I shouldn’t know your entire Zodiac chart and deepest childhood secret before knowing you’re off the market, dude.

Um, so proud this queen chose to ditch this nightmare situation, too!

This freedom that this realization brings is something I’d categorize as a big slay.

Something we’re absolutely never normalizing? Texts like these!

Shout out to all the fallen exes who now serve as punchlines. We salute your service!

Moral of the story: there’s a man of the year inside all of us, so don’t settle for less from someone else.
