Olivia Munn Embraces Mastectomy Scars In Topless Skims Campaign

I’ve been a fan of Olivia Munn since her Attack of the Show! days. It wasn’t just because she was absolutely stunning or hilarious, but even on a scripted TV show you could tell there was something so real about her. And seeing her now more than two decades later being completely real and raw about her health journey on an ad for a $4 billion company — let’s just say I’m not surprised, but my heart is glowing. It’s always refreshing when celebrities remind us that despite all the wealth and fame, they’re real humans who experience real human things.

In what was supposed to just be a new SKIMS ad for their leggings, Olivia is showing off her mastectomy scars in a way she’s never done before — and also turned the campaign into one that raises awareness for breast cancer as well as donates proceeds to Susan G. Komen. When asked about what sparked this sudden embrace of her scars on an interview with TODAY, Olivia said, “I am done being insecure about my scars.

But she didn’t just alter this campaign to show that women with breast cancer — and those who have had surgery because of it — can still be sexy and strong (although she sends that message as well), she’s also keen to remind the general public about the importance of getting tested.

Olivia Munn’s Health Journey

Olivia was diagnosed with breast cancer back in April of 2023, but this was after years of getting cleared for the disease despite multiple rounds of testing. She was consistently getting clear mammograms. But her doctor encouraged her to get a risk assessment test anyway. Scoring more than 20% typically shows high risk of breast cancer — Olivia scored 37.3%. She then urged her doctor to test her more intensely and eventually found she had a very aggressive form of breast cancer called Luminal B. Within the next month, she had to get a double mastectomy and then an egg retrieval (because she still wanted to have children). After that, she had breast reconstruction done and began hormonal chemotherapy while she also prepared for a partial hysterectomy and oophorectomy (which removes the fallopian tubes and ovaries).

While Olivia is still figuring out her medicine as he balances her two children (she just welcomed another child via surrogate in September), she is feeling much better than before, although she is still recovering from her cancer. And being part of campaigns like her recent SKIMS one reminds her how grateful she is to be on her way to a healthier her — all while she has the support of her husband John Mulaney and their two children.
