Is it just me, or does actually nailing down plans feel like the hardest part of an adult friendship? Once you go through the torture of finding a date and time that works for everyone, you’re left with the same dinner-and-drinks options that you’ve been cycling through for years. Well I can tell you from experience that SIX on Broadway is the answer to leveling up your next girls’ night out.

And while my recent trip to the fiercest, funniest night on Broadway included my husband rather than a group of my besties, I still left the theater with so much feminism running through my veins, that I hardly even noticed he was there! So go ahead and send this to the group chat to make sure you make SIX on Broadway the star of your next girls’ night out this summer.

It’s Part Broadway Show Part Pop Concert

Yes *technically* SIX is an eight-time Tony-nominated musical, but the moment I stepped into the Lena Horne Theatre, the vibes were more high-energy pop concert than traditional musical that your high school might have done. The show introduces the audience to Henry VIII’s six wives not as stuffy, historical characters but as a fabulous and fierce girl group. Each Queen is inspired by a different pop diva, so whether you identify as part of a hive or consider yourself one of the Barbz, you’ll be blown away by each lead’s unique powerhouse vocals. And when they all come together, the tight harmonies are equally impressive.

You’ll Actually Learn Something!

As a lifelong fan of historical fiction (any Dear America stans in the house!?) I was delighted to actually learn a bit about each of these six Queens throughout the show. Sure, I knew a lot of drama went down between the wives and good ole King H. But I loved getting to hear each of their stories, told through incredibly catchy, sometimes hilarious, and other times deeply moving songs. In just the first few seconds of the opening number, Ex-Wives, I got a total earworm way to remember each of their fates. But throughout the course of the show, I also learned that each woman was way more than just how her marriage ended.

The Bestie Vibes are STRONG

I mentioned that I saw this show with my husband, but the entire building’s energy— from the stage to the back of the audience— radiated girl power vibes. SIX was created by two college friends, so it totally made sense that when I looked around me, I saw groups of besties giddily singing along and tons of moms and daughters dancing in their seats.

It’s Only 80 Minutes Long!

As much as I am a musical theater girlie to my core, let’s be honest, they can be long. SIX packs an incredible amount of history, humor, and straight-up bangers into just 80 minutes with no intermission. So whether you decide to grab dinner after the show, feel inspired by the Queens of SIX to hit the nearest dance floor, or, like me, dream of making it to bed by 11p.m., SIX will perfectly fit your girls’ night out style.
