I get the hype. As a devoted Game of Thrones fan, I’ll admit that every time Khaleesi said, “Dracarys!” I felt a tingle that had nothing to do with dragon fire. There’s something about the drama of medieval castles, forbidden romances, and knights in shining armor jousting for your honor that just hits. And if you’ve ever fantasized about rolling around on a fur throw in your very own stone tower, you’re not alone.

As much as I love the aesthetic (and the idea of having a personal squire), castlecore might not be my thing. Sure, I’m all for a sexy romp in a period-inspired corset, but when you add dragon-themed sex toys to the mix… it’s a no from me. But apparently, not everyone shares my hesitation because the New York Post reported castlecore sex is trending big time. And while I completely understand the appeal of pretending you’re a maiden in a tower waiting for your knight (or a dragon? You do you), experts are now warning that some of these medieval-inspired adventures could get dangerous (and no, not in a sexy way). I mean, your medieval fantasy might land you in the ER.

What Is Castlecore Sex?

Castlecore sex is exactly what it sounds like — a medieval, fantasy-inspired bedroom aesthetic. Think lace-up corsets, flowing gowns, candlelit chambers, and maybe even a dragon or two. The trend has been fueled by the rise of romantasy — a genre that blends romance and fantasy — and the massive popularity of fairy smut novels like A Court of Thorns and Roses.

At its core, castlecore sex is about tapping into forbidden power dynamics and sultry fairy tale vibes. It’s sexy, it’s escapist, and it’s a chance to live out your fantasies of being a swoon-worthy damsel. And apparently, people are taking the theme seriously, with period corsets and dragon-inspired sex toys flying off the shelves.

Why Is The Castlecore Sex Trend So Dangerous?

While castlecore sex might sound like a romantic fantasy come to life, experts are urging caution. For starters, let’s talk about corsets. Sure, they’re hot, but when laced too tight, they can interfere with your breathing and mess with your digestive system.

Then there’s the dragon-inspired sex toys. Yes, they exist, and yes, they’re as wild as they sound. If you’re having a hard time imagining what I’m talking about, think “monster dildos” and “scales and wings.” But here’s the problem: oddly shaped toys can sometimes get, well… stuck. And when that happens, it’s not just awkward — it’s a medical emergency. According to a recent study published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, nearly 4,000 people end up in the ER every year due to foreign objects in their rectums, with a significant percentage of those being sexual devices.

While the idea of living out your medieval fantasies might be tempting, it’s important to prioritize safety. Maybe stick to fantasy novels and role-play outfits that don’t require a call to your doctor.
