Do you ever see an insane sex position and think to yourself, “my back could never“? Well, all my girlies with lower back pain, this one’s for you.

When you have any type of chronic pain, sex can feel like a chore — and that shouldn’t be the case for anyone! Everyone deserves a good fuck! I have good news: you don’t need to be contorted into a some sort of advanced yoga position in order to get off during sex. If just the idea of being bent over something in any way makes sharp pains shoot down your back, there are other positions you can try.

When it comes to back pain and bedroom fun it all depends on exactly what the issue is. If your back is acting up because of disc issues, spinal flexion (aka bending forward) is a big no-no. Instead, spinal extension (aka arching your back) might be your new bestie for pain relief.

It’s all about finding what works for your body, so it may be helpful to experiment a little and to stop if any type of flare works up. What usually works best though is to focus on positions that keep your back stable, moving your pelvis while keeping your back straight (if you have the ability to flex without wincing), and if all else fails, letting your partner do all the work while you lie back. That’s right, being a pillow princess is actually great for your back.

Ribbon

Also known as “reverse spoon,” this position requires you to lie on your side while your partner lies on their side behind you and their crotch to your rear. This is different than regular spooning because you’re not right behind one another — your partner’s head should be where your feet are and vice versa. Any type of spooning positions is really easy on your lower back and this is no exception.

Low Doggy

While any kind of doggy can be kind to your lower back, by resting on your forearms instead of your hands as well as placing a pillow under your stomach, you’re taking the pressure off of your back even more. Plus, it’s just more comfy overall.

Harmony

Keep that pillow, but instead of using it for a doggy position you can use it for a missionary position. Place the pillow under your back while your partner gets on top. The pillow not only cushions your lower back but it also helps directly align your pelvis with your partners so that you don’t have to do any unnecessary stretching or flexing.

Comfortable Place

The name of the position says it all. If the only time you feel relief on your lower back is when you’re sitting upright — you can totally incorporate that into sex. Have your partner sit on a chair or at the edge of the bed with their feet touching the floor. Then, just back up into them and sit on their lap. By being on top, you can control the speed and depth of penetration so that you can figure out what works (or doesn’t) for you.
