Why I’m Ready to Wear My Wins (and You Should Be Too!)

Because everyday wins deserve fine jewelry

This week, my therapist told me (almost scolded me, really) to treat myself the way I would treat a friend. In fact, as a recovering perfectionist, people have been saying this to me my entire life. Would I belittle my friend for making a typo in a work email? No! Would I wait for a huge life milestone like an engagement or a pregnancy to celebrate my bestie and treat her to a gorgeous gift? Absolutely not! So why wouldn't I extend that same generosity to myself?

So I’ve decided that from now on, I’m not just celebrating my wins, I’m wearing them, with gorgeous pieces from Zales. Pieces that won’t just sit in my jewelry box, waiting for a special occasion, but that will complement and elevate my everyday style. And remind me just how worthy of celebrating I am every freakin’ day. As if that's not reason enough to buy yourself a fabulous piece of jewelry and wear your wins, here are a few reasons that are motivating me to treat myself.

I’ve Spent Enough on Other People’s Celebrations to Finance a Downpayment

Don’t get me wrong, it brings me nothing but joy to celebrate my besties at their bachelorettes, bridal showers, baby showers, and 30th birthday dinners where I only had one drink but somehow we all split the bill evenly. But once I did the math of how much money I spent celebrating other people and their major milestones (Take my advice: don't do it! In this case, ignorance is bliss), it felt wrong to deny myself the tennis bracelet I’ve been eyeing. Or that watch that makes me feel like a real grown up.

The Everyday Milestones Deserve to Be Celebrated

I’m not saying you shouldn’t celebrate an engagement, a baby, or even a life-changing promotion you’ve been working toward for years. But why have we been conditioned to wait for these gigantic life moments, many of which are outside of our direct control, to feel “deserving” of a pair of diamond earrings or necklace? As far as I’m concerned, finally ending a cursed situationship, surviving Q3 without a mental breakdown, or even putting your laundry away directly after washing and folding it are milestones worth celebrating.

I Am The Occasion

Remember what I said before about treating myself the way I would treat my friends? I would never tell one of my beautiful, brilliant, bold besties to wait until some arbitrary occasion to buy herself a gorgeous ring that she was lusting after. Or worse, wait for some man to buy it for her!. So why would I deny myself the pleasure of a beautiful piece of jewelry? One that I can wear every day and be reminded every time I look down at my hand that I am an occasion worth celebrating.
