It’s a tough day for 1975 fans who thought they would end up with Matty Healy. Matty Healy and his brand-new fiancée, the model and performer Gabbriette Bechtel, have announced to the world the happy news that they are engaged. Rumors of their engagement have been surfacing since late May when Gabbriette was spotted sporting her big shiny Onyx black stone (if you were expecting Matty Healy to comply with the typical diamond industrial complex protocol, do you know him at all?). This of course, comes a year after Matty’s long, drawn-out breakup with Taylor Swift (AKA the queen of breakups). But the days of being tortured seem long over for Matty, given his exciting new engagement, co-signed with approval by his mom, Denise, who said the proposal happened a few weeks ago. Now that the rockstar is settling down to be a married man, we have a few questions. Are Matty and Gabbriette getting married in the UK? When exactly did Matt decide that Gabbriette would be the one he’s going to be in love with for ages? Most importantly, is Charli XCX going to be in their wedding party??? Gabbriette and Matty posted an unconventional engagement announcement just in time for Charli XCX’s BRAT summer. Gabbriette posted from Charli’s Brooklyn concert showing off her ring, an Onyx black stone surrounded by pave diamonds, with the caption “MARRYING THE 1975 IS SO BRAT.” This is low-key the perfect engagement announcement for these two, considering Charli is kind of going to be Gabbriette’s sister-in-law (if you consider The 1975 as a brotherhood since Charlie is engaged to 1975 drummer George Daniel). It seems they may have held off announcing their engagement because of all the endless drama swirling around Matty’s 2023 tryst with Taylor Swift, which was a topic Taylor exhausted on many of TTPD’s 31 tracks, though their entanglement only lasted a few months.

As Gabbriette told Homme Girls magazine, the 35-year-old Brit flew out to see her in Los Angeles, and they began dating immediately. They went public after being spotted together in New York in the fall of 2023. The pair have been together for less than a year.
Gabbriette is a 26-year-old Los Angeles-based model and singer who appeared in the Charli XCX curated band Nasty Cherry, which is featured in a Netflix documentary. Charli and Gabbriette had previously met on the set of Charli’s music video for “After The After Party.” The band has released three EPs. Gabbriette grew up in California, has worked as a professional model for many years, and originally thought she was going to be a dancer who attended Juliard one day.
