Was I rattled by the absolutely unhinged ending of The Hunting Wives season 1? Entirely. But I need more episodes, ASAP.

I didn’t realize I needed a Netflix soap series about a small Texas town where basically all the women are gay and cheating on their evil husbands, but I really, really did. After binging the first season of this show, I may or may have started slipping into an obnoxious, exaggerated southern accent sometimes, and I’m completely invested in Sophie and Margo’s journeys. There’s nothing I love more than messy female villains.

The season 1 finale left us on quite the cliffhanger — ya know, Sophie running over someone with her car… right after she found out Margo killed someone. Ever since the show premiered in July, the girlies have been desperate for more of this southern sapphic chaos. So, will there be a season 2 of The Hunting Wives? We just got a very exciting update! Here’s what we know so far about the release date, cast, and plot.

The Hunting Wives Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Plot

Will There Be A Season 2 Of The Hunting Wives?

On September 12, The Hunting Wives was renewed for an eight-episode second season! (I’d prefer a 25-episode season, but I’ll take it.)

At the Emmys, Brittany Snow teased, “I think it’s gonna be just as bananas as the first season, probably pushing the envelope just as much, and that’s exactly what we’re here for.” She and Malin Akerman revealed that production will begin in November. YAY!

The renewal doesn’t come as a shock, considering the week the series premiered on Netflix, it jumped to No. 3 and garnered 5.2 million views in those first seven days. Plus, show creator Rebecca Cutter’s been thinking about more seasons for a while. Speaking to Variety in July, she teased that there would likely be “a little bit of a time jump — not a year, but a time.”

“The first thing I’m thinking about is, where are these two women at the start?” she said about Margo and Sophie. “Where are they at the end? What are the peaks and valleys of their individual power, of their relationship? So it’s tracking a course for that, and then figuring out what the crime engine is.” Rebecca thinks it “would be smart” to have another murder mystery next season (as if enough people didn’t die in season 1). She emphasized, “I don’t know whodunit yet or who got done!”

The Hunting Wives Season 2 Cast

Per the renewal announcement, the original cast will reprise their roles. We can certainly expect Malin back as Margo and Brittany back as Sophie. And it sounds like Jaime Ray Newman (Callie), Evan Jonigkeit (Graham), Dermot Mulroney (Jed), George Ferrier (Brad), and Chosen Jacobs (Jamie) will return too! We’ll see if those characters survive another season…

The Hunting Wives Season 2 Plot

At the end of season 1, we discovered that it was Margo who killed Abby — in an attempt to cover up her affair with Brad and her abortion. Sophie completely loses her shit when she realizes Margo was lying the whole time and tried to frame her. In a haunting, full-circle moment, she drives drunk again and runs over Margo’s brother, Kyle, after he tries to run her off the road. Panicked, she disposes of the body. It’s honestly diabolical of them to leave us with that cliffhanger.

Needless to say, there are a lot of questions going into a (possible) season 2. Will Margo get arrested for murdering Abby? Will she figure out Sophie murdered her brother? Will Sophie get arrested for murdering Kyle? And WTF is gonna happen with Margo and Sophie’s relationship?

“I don’t know if you can come back from where Margo and Sophie are, especially because Sophie killed her brother,” Brittany told Collider. “The thing that I love about the character of Sophie… was that Sophie ends up exactly where she was probably in the flashback before we even see her. She’s had this full circle transformation of finding herself again, and yet here we are. Her true self is a mess.”

Indeed, and I can’t wait for more of this entertaining mess.
