Everyone shut the fuck up right now — Beyoncé just spoke. In a rare interview with GQ titled “The Business of Being Beyoncé Knowles-Carter,” she opened up about her inspiration for Cowboy Carter, the years of dedication she put into her new whisky (yes, without the “e”) brand SirDavis, and how much she trusts the products in her haircare line Cécred. And although the article focuses primarily on her entrepreneurial standards and how she’s managed to achieve perfection in literally anything she touches, we also get to see some instances of Beyoncé being a mother. And no, not mother but a mom to her three kids Blue Ivy, Rumi, and Sir.

Here are some of the things Queen Bey had to say about her parenting style, balancing being the Beyoncé and also a mom, and protecting her children from the world that comes with being rich and famous.

Beyoncé Takes It With Stride

As expected, Bey has a lot going on in her life at all times — she’s constantly working. But that doesn’t stop her from appreciating her role as both businesswoman and mother. “Parenting while working, I move forward, embracing the beauty and the chaos of it all,” she said in her interview. Umm she’s a poet?

Beyoncé Wants Normalcy And Privacy For Her Kids

“One thing I’ve worked extremely hard on is making sure my kids can have as much normalcy and privacy as possible, ensuring my personal life isn’t turned into a brand,” she told GQ. “It’s very easy for celebrities to turn our lives into performance art.” This isn’t surprising to hear since we know that Beyoncé is a pro when it comes to keeping her private life private. I mean, even this interview was a pleasant surprise. Queen Bey is also a queen of boundaries.

“I have made an extreme effort to stay true to my boundaries and protect myself and my family,” she said. “No amount of money is worth my peace.”

For Beyoncé, Family Comes First

You’d think that with someone as big and busy as Beyoncé, family time would get put on the back burner — but not for Beyoncé. “I build my work schedule around my family,” she said. “I try to only tour when my kids are out of school. I always dreamt of a life where I could see the world with my family and expose them to different languages, architecture, and lifestyles.”

Beyoncé’s Children Are Teaching Her Patience

Kids only get more complicated as they get older, and Beyoncé said, “Raising three kids isn’t easy. The older they get, the more they become their own individuals with unique needs, hobbies, and social lives.” She also explained how grateful she is just to have the experience of parenting.

“Parenting constantly teaches you about yourself,” she said. “It takes a lot of prayer and patience. I love it. It’s grounding and fulfilling.”

Beyoncé Takes Her Kids Everywhere

If you thought Beyoncé was just leaving her kids with nannies while she was off to the studio, you’d be incorrect. “My kids come with me everywhere I go,” she said. “They come to my office after school, and they are in the studio with me. They are in dance rehearsals.” Which is how Blue learned her choreo for her Renaissance tour — eventually becoming part of it.

Beyoncé is truly mother.
