For some bisexual girlies, the lightbulb moment hit while watching Jade (Liz Gillies) in Victorious. For others, it was Jennifer (Megan Fox) in Jennifer’s Body who triggered the gay panic. And in 2025, it’s The Hunting Wives that’s opening women’s eyes to the full spectrum of their sexuality. Yes… the new Netflix show ostensibly about guns, murders, and far-right Republicans. Starring the stunning, gorgeous, perfect Brittany Snow, the unhinged drama follows a group of frenemies in a conservative Texas town who are cheating on their husbands — with each other. And considering how toxic and/or lame all their husbands are, I really don’t blame them.

One newly curious Hunting Wives fan, Melanie, has been with her husband for over 20 years. She told Betches that while she still considers herself straight, she’s “now, after the show, a tiny bit curious.” Melanie joked with her husband, saying The Hunting Wives has “piqued [her] interest,” and shared a TikTok with the caption: “All of us straight women are questioning ourselves after watching The Hunting Wives, right?”

Melanie isn’t alone. Understandably, ~straight~ women all over America are binging the soapy series, eyes glued to every steamy WLW sex scene, and asking themselves: “Wait… do I like women?” These women are a variety of different ages, many of them are married, and they’re getting vulnerable on TikTok. The Hunting Wives Is A Sexual Awakening For Some Women

For some women, The Hunting Wives is just stirring up brand new feelings, and for others, it’s inspiring immediate action.

TikToker Britt posted asking if happily married straight women are “okay” after watching the show. She told Betches that the show “definitely caught [her] off guard in the best way,” explaining: “As a happily married woman, I wasn’t expecting a show to stir that much curiosity or inner dialogue. It didn’t make me question my love or commitment, but it did spark a few unexpected thoughts about attraction.”

Britt noted that it’s “wild how certain stories can pull you into a world that feels so different from your own, and still make you wonder, ‘What if?'” What if, indeed…

Comedian and influencer Dana Moon, shared in a July 28 TikTok that she felt compelled to change her Hinge settings to include women right after watching. “I finished the show last night and in the morning, I changed my Hinge,” she said. “So. Queue Chappell Roan! Guess I’m gay because of Netflix.”

Another big fan of the series, Kim, admitted in a TikTok the she called her best friend after watching it and “accidentally asked her what she was wearing instead of what she was doing.” Ope! I’m sure that wasn’t awkward at all. Her comments were flooded with similar confessions, like: “EVERYONE be looking at their bffs differently these days” and “So did hunting wives just turn every female to the other side…”

Interestingly, the change of heart/sexual preferences post-Hunting Wives isn’t a phenomenon that’s unique to progressive-minded women. “I’m probably the most conservative, heterosexual 48-year-old woman that you’ll ever meet, but that show… Ya know, I was like second-guessing my sexuality,” an Alabama-based creator, Life With B, shared. She emphasized that she “knows” she’s not the only woman who feels that way. (Based on all the similar videos and reflections in comments sections, I’d say she’s right about that.)

Even if you’ve always felt secure in your straight identity or have been happily partnered for years, it’s totally normal to get curious sometimes. As creator Kayla Hughs points out in a video about this Hunting Wives pattern, “Curiosity, bisexuality, desire — none of it disappears when you put on a ring on or have kids. It’s always been there. This show just gave it permission to breathe.” Lots of long-repressed sapphic energy is getting a breath of fresh air right now!

While a TV show can’t turn anyone queer, consuming media with queer representation can absolutely spark self-reflection and help people discover parts of themselves they haven’t fully explored yet. Sometimes fictional characters do play an important role in helping us process and navigate our realities.
