The athlete, who was born in Louisiana and literally went to college at Louisiana State University, has an American father and a Swedish mother. Although he initially planned to represent America, Swedish coach Jonas Anshelm convinced him to compete for Sweden. Jonas is definitely patting himself on the back these days, considering Mondo just broke the pole vault world record for the ninth time in his career. The pole vaulter is a two-time olympic champion, the current Diamond League champion, and the world outdoor and indoor record holder. No biggie.
