On May 30, 2022 Doja Cat tweeted “joseph quinn fine as shit.” As she would later explain, it was a typical outrageous Doja gag for attention, but obviously one with some no-so-secret intent behind it. Then on July 6, 2022, Doja messaged Noah Schnapp (who she’d been friendly with) to ask “Noah can u tell Joseph to hmu? wait no. does he have a gf?” Noah replied that Doja should slide into Joseph’s DMs herself, sharing his IG handle but then later put her on blast by sharing a screenshot of their exchange on TikTok. Doja did not take kindly to having her news put on Front Street, hopping on a live to call the move “degrading,” “socially unaware,” “whack,” “borderline snake shit,” and “weasel shit.” Even though Doja acknowledged “When you’re that young, you make mistakes. You do dumb shit. I’m like, trying to be super fair” she still got backlash to the tune of losing 200K followers for going in on a high schooler.
