Fans of Brooke Schofield and the Cancelled podcast are hurt, upset, and angry after discovering Brooke’s racist tweets from when she was a teenager and in her early 20s. The podcast host’s awful tweets began to resurface in early August, and Brooke has since spoken out about them in a few TikTok apology videos. In the latest episode of Cancelled, it was Tana’s turn to react to the tweets. She recorded the podcast sans Brooke this time and discussed Brooke’s future (or potentially lack thereof) on the show. So, is Brooke leaving Cancelled? Here’s everything we know about the Brook Schofield tweets controversy and Tana Mongeau’s response.

Brooke Schofield Controversy Explained

Brooke Schofield’s Tweets

Last week, a series of Brooke’s past harmful tweets resurfaced and circulated on TikTok. In one, she wrote, “I said so many accidentally racist things last night I don’t know how I even made it back to America.” In other tweets, the influencer made insulting comments about Black people’s hair and defended George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who murdered 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in 2012.

After several TikTokers called her out and demanded a response, Brooke shared an apology video on August 4. She confirmed that the tweets are “unfortunately are not fake.” The podcast host said that she’s also horrified by the posts. “I think they’re so disturbing, they’re wrong, they’re horrible, and they’re disgusting,” she said through tears. Brooke noted that she was raised by conservative grandparents and got a lot of her opinions from Fox News when she was younger.

Brooke received a lot of criticism for her first apology because she was crying in the video, didn’t explicitly apologize to those directly impacted by the tweets, and people felt like she was using her family situation as an excuse or adequate explanation. “I agree with everyone that I missed the mark,” Brooke said in a second apology video on August 6. “I am so sorry, specifically to Black people and the other people of color who were offended by my tweets.”

Is Brooke Schofield Off Cancelled?

In the August 11 episode of the show, which is titled “Responding to Brooke’s Tweets,” Tana shared that she’s decided to remove Brooke from Cancelled for now. “As you guys can see, I am alone on this couch,” Tana says in the episode introduction. “Brooke is not here with us today and I want to be abundantly clear that that was my decision.”

Tana continues in the intro, “We all saw the tweets and they’re fucked up and they’re horrific, and I’m saying that as a white person. Like, I cannot even imagine being a Black non-fan or fan and reading the tweets — and I’ve made it very clear to Brooke as well that I condemn her for these tweets and they’re fucking horrible.” For this episode, Tana’s friend and assistant, Paige Camerlin, filled in for Brooke. It’s unclear whether or not she will become a regular co-host while Brooke takes time away.
