Everything To Know About ‘Heartstopper’ Star Kit Connor’s Dating Life

Love is all around Kit Connor, or at least it’s all around his characters’ lives. The actor is probably most well known as Nick Nelson in Heartstopper, aka one half of one of the most iconic teen couples in TV history (and soon to be movie history!). But he also just finished up a run in Romeo + Juliet opposite Rachel Zegler, playing Romeo, aka one half of one of the most iconic couples in all of history ever. So yeah, there’s a lot of romance in the air around Kit Connor’s professional life. But what about his personal life?

Kit came out as bisexual on X (when it was still known as Twitter) in 2022, amid pressure and harassment from the public. Some people accused Kit of “queerbaiting” by playing a queer character in Heartstopper while appearing straight to the public. He responded with a super straightforward tweet: “I’m bi. Congrats for forcing an 18-year-old to out himself. I think some of you missed the point of the show. Bye.”

Even though Kit told British Vogue he would have “preferred to do it another way,” he found coming out was “empowering.”

After all that drama around his coming out, it would make sense that Kit would want to remain a little more private about his dating life. Here’s what we do know about Kit Connor’s relationship history.

Who Has Kit Connor Dated?

Like I said, Kit Connor is (understandably) a really private person, so he hasn’t gone public with any relationships. There were some rumors in the past that Kit was dating Joe Locke, who plays his character Nick’s boyfriend Charlie in Heartstopper. But, both Kit and Joe have shut those rumors down multiple times in the press, saying that they’re simply “good friends.”

There’s one other possible co-star romance for Kit, this time with Maia Reficco. The two worked together on A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow, which wrapped filming in 2022 but hasn’t been released yet. Just like with Joe, Maia was Kit’s love interest in the movie and they were seen holding hand in Paris, and so there were rumors that they sparked a real-life romance as well. But nothing was confirmed there, so we don’t know for sure.

In an interview with The Guardian in 2023, Kit was tightlipped about his dating life, and said that he’s especially wary of being open about any opposite-gender relationships because of all the queerbaiting accusations he previously received. “I would – annoyingly — I would be more conscious and might be less open about it.”
