The Owens sisters are back, and their family tree is growing. The cult-classic 90s movie Practical Magic is getting a sequel, so fans will get to check back in with the Owens witches and see what magic they’ve been conjuring up all these years. And the best part of this news? Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are reprising their roles for Practical Magic 2.
The original Practical Magic, which came out in 1998 and features the iconic late-90s fashion to prove it, tells the story of Sally and Gillian Owens, who were raised by their eccentric aunts and learned magic from them. But when Gillian’s abusive boyfriend dies unexpectedly, they need to pool their magical powers to make sure his spirit doesn’t take over. It’s witchy and weird, and IMO one of the ultimate movies about sisterhood.
“I am so proud that we made a film that has not only stood the test of time but has also been a piece that can be passed down from generation to generation,” Nicole Kidman told Rolling Stone in 2024.
She went on to say just how excited she is for fans to see the story continue with Practical Magic 2. “I just love that we made something that was embraced this way — it’s so rare — and that we get to do it again, hopefully with an audience that embraces us a second time,” she said. “But c’mon, we are witches! We will work our magic.”

Here’s everything we know about Practical Magic 2.
The first Practical Magic movie follows Sally and Gillian as they embrace their witch-iness, deal with Gillian’s boyfriend’s spirit, and overcome the curse that causes the death of any of the Owens family’s male love interests. It’s based on the 1995 novel Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman, and the sequel will be based on another book in her Owens family series: The Book of Magic.

Denise Di Novi, who’s producing the sequel, promised they’re going to stay true to the source material. “I think [fans are] going to be very pleased,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “We’re going to be very faithful. We’re cognizant to how important those characters and that movie are to so many people. We’re going to draw from Alice Hoffman’s books, as the first movie did, and we’re going to be true to the chronology of how many years later it is.”
So obvi we’ve got Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock reprising their roles as the iconic Owens sisters. But Practical Magic 2 will also usher in a new generation of witches. Joey King is reportedly joining the cast of Practical Magic 2 as one of Gillian’s daughters. She “discovers the dark family secrets and her own dark powers, plunging the family into a crisis.”
Practical Magic 2 is set to release in theaters September 18, 2026.

The premiere date was announced in an Instagram post that features Nicole and Sandra’s voices reciting a spell: “Tooth of wolf and morning dew / something old and something new / let the spell begin to mix / September 18, 2026.” BRB, grabbing my witch hat and broomstick now.
