Today, August 7, 2024, marks exactly two decades since The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement premiered and changed our lives forever. I guess it’s true… we are big girls now. But yes, I still want an invite to Mia’s musical slumber party with all the princesses and mattress surfing. The premiere of Princess Diaries 2 took place at AMC Downtown Disney in Anaheim, California, and well, I wouldn’t exactly call it a royal affair. There were a lot of Mickey and Minnie appearances, remarkably casual fits, and awkward red carpet photos. To celebrate 20 years of Princess Diaries 2, I’m obsessing over all the insane photos from that premiere day. Young Anne Hathaway, Chris Pine, Emma Roberts, and Kelly Clarkson bravely embraced cringe at this event, and we have to admire their efforts.

Only Anne could pull off this going-out-to-dinner-with-your-parents-in-2004 outfit for a premiere. The sandals, the huge bracelets, the mom hairdo… this was courageous.

You may recall that the most important song of that decade (and maybe ever), “Breakaway,” is featured on the Princess Diaries 2 soundtrack. Do I love the floral dress? No. Do I love the purple suited fellas in the background? Yes.

Whitney, a producer on Princess Diaries 2, was really ahead of her time here cause this is the most Barbie look I’ve ever seen. Bobbi does not look impressed and clearly doesn’t understand the history she’s living through right there. SMH.
Chris opted for a dad-at-the-office-who-doesn’t-know-what-size-clothes-to-buy kinda ensemble, but he still looks pretty! The haircut might be the most disturbing element here.

Chris slyly eyeing the competition (Callum Blue who played the duke Mia was supposed to marry) is a real dedication to his craft. I love to see it.
