The Runarounds is the latest, greatest coming-of-age teen drama on Prime Video. As I’ve always said, nothing makes a teen drama better than a quirky group of musically gifted kids trying to become famous. (It’s giving Lemonade Mouth in the best way.) The new show follows a Wilmington, North Carolina-based pop-rock band chasing their dream of making it big — and yes, The Runarounds are a band IRL, and they wrote the songs featured in the show! I’ve tried and tried to convince myself that I’m too old to stream this insanely catchy soundtrack on repeat, but alas, here I am doing just that.

All eight episodes aired on September 1, and the season is a pretty quick watch when you’re obsessively binging it. Naturally, fans are already wondering when or if we’ll get more. So, will there be a season 2 of The Runarounds? Here’s everything we know so far about a potential release date, cast, and plot.

Will There Be A Season 2 Of The Runarounds?

I hate to be the bearer of terrible news, but Prime Video has not renewed the show for a second season — yet.

Prime Video doesn’t have the best track record of renewing shows (*cough* Julie and the Phantoms), but I’m still holding out hope for The Runarounds season 2. Since show creator Jonas Pate is also responsible for Outer Banks, a lot of that fandom is streaming The Runarounds now. And I’ve only seen positive reviews on social media! The people (me) definitely want more.

In an interview with Black Film and TV, Jonas gushed about the band and sort of teased another season. “It’s all going to be their music,” he said. “They write all their own songs. I totally anticipate that they’ll release records in between seasons just as a band.”

The show creator added, “In fact, they’ve already started writing this record that they want to release before a potential season two. They’re super prolific. They write like crazy.” That’s music to my ears.

Assuming we get a season 2, the band members will obviously be back: William Lipton (Charlie), Zendé Murdock (Bez), Jesse Golliher (Wyatt), Jeremy Yun (Topher), and Axel Ellis (Neil). And it’s pretty much a given that Lilah Pate would return to play Sophia. (She’s literally the show creator’s daughter, so I doubt she’s going anywhere.)

I’m guessing we could also expect Marley Aliah (Bender), Maximo Salas (Pete), and Jennifer Daley (Danny Mace) to return.

The Runarounds Season 2 Plot

Since season 2 hasn’t been confirmed yet, I’m just making an educated guess here. But I suspect the next season would explore The Runarounds’ journey landing a record deal and navigating their new lives as rockstars. I can imagine plenty more challenges and drama unfolding in both their careers and personal lives.

In fact, two of the band members, Zendé Murdock and Jesse Golliher (Bez and Wyatt, respectively) told Us Weekly that they want their characters’ to have girlfriends next season. William Lipton (Charlie) is hoping for a “dance act” in season 2. I’d love to see all of the above!
