First, it was Naomi Osaka and Cordae, then Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber (this was particularly jarring), then Jessica Alba and Cash Warren, and now Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson. Yup… After 10 years of marriage, Jessica and Eric are splitting. Jessica shared the news herself in a statement to People, revealing that she and her ex have been living separately. The Employee of the Month star and the former NFL player tied the knot back in July 2014, and they share three kids: Maxwell, Birdie, and Ace.
So, what led to the singer and the athlete calling it quits? Here’s everything we know about why Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson split.
In her statement to People, Jessica shared, “Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage. Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”

Although the singer’s statement didn’t reveal why she and Eric went their separate ways, Jessica seemed to hint at the reason back in November. At the time, she shared model-esque photos of herself posing in a recording studio and reflected on being treated in a way she “did not deserve.” Jessica wrote in her caption, “Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic. This comeback is personal. It’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.” Tea.
Fans in the comments quickly assumed this was Jessica soft-launching her new single status — one person commented, “So you’re getting divorced.” Around the time Jessica shared that post, Eric was seen out and about without his wedding ring.
A source told Us Weekly that Jessica is “heartbroken” about the split, and it was “not an easy decision for her.” Obviously, we don’t have all the details about their separation. But based on the limited info from sources and Insta, it appears like Jessica initiated the split.
