Two years after losing her husband, beloved dancer and TV personality Stephen “tWitch” Boss, Allison Holker is opening up about his behind-the-scenes struggles. Stephen tragically died by suicide on December 14, 2022, leaving behind Allison and their three children, Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia. On January 7, Allison shared more of his story via a wide-ranging interview with People and also announced her upcoming memoir titled This Far.

During Allison’s People interview, she spoke about Stephen’s alleged drug use and shared shocking details from his journal entries. The So You Think You Can Dance alum swiftly received backlash on social media and was even called out by some of Stephen’s family and friends. A close friend of the couple, Courtney Ann Platt, called Allison’s interview “the most tacky, classless, opportunistic act I have ever seen in my entire life” in an Instagram post. Stephen’s brother, Dré Rose, re-shared Courtney’s post, writing, “No lies told…”

Here’s what Allison Holker said about Stephen “tWitch” Boss’ alleged drug use and her response to the backlash.

Allison Holker’s Quotes About tWitch’s Alleged Drug Use

What Did Allison Holker Say About tWitch’s Journals And Alleged Drug Use?

While speaking with People, Allison said before Stephen’s funeral, she found a “cornucopia” of drugs in his closet that included mushrooms, pills, and more. “It was a really scary moment in my life to figure that out,” Allison said, “but it also helped me process that he was going through so much and he was hiding so much, and there must have been a lot of shame in that.”

Allison also shared that she read Stephen’s journals after his death and realized he alluded to being sexually abused in his childhood by a male figure. “He was wrestling with a lot inside himself, and he was trying to self-medicate and cope with all those feelings because he didn’t want to put it on anyone because he loved everyone so much,” she told People. “He didn’t want other people to take on his pain.”

For the dancer, reading her late husband’s journals gave her “a better perspective of where he was in life and the type of things he was struggling with.” She added that she had newfound “empathy” and “sadness” for him after learning more about his life.

On January 8, Allison shared an Instagram Story, addressing the backlash after her interview and book announcement. “To fans of Stephen and our family and friends, I want to be clear that my only intention in writing the book is to share my own story as well as part of my life with Stephen to help other people,” she wrote, adding, “Just like you, I never really knew what happened, and even as I am trying to put the pieces together I will never really know.”

Her statement continued, “If you decide to read the book, hopefully you’ll see my intention is to celebrate the love and life I shared with Stephen and our three beautiful children, and also the more complex aspects of both of our lives.” Allison said she hopes to help others recognize the “red flags” she missed.
