On season 7 of Love Island USA, Islander Huda Mustafa first introduced herself to her new roommates by saying they should pronounce her name like “coulda, shoulda, woulda.” After Huda’s historic crash out in just week three of the long summer, I bet Huda (and everyone who had to witness her temper tantrum IRL) wishes she coulda, shoulda, woulda applied some emotional regulation and deep breathing to her situation with Jeremiah. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it was absolutely thrilling television, and I’m still rewinding and rewatching as we speak. I’m also not necessarily team Jeremiah, either. But, though I hate to say it about my sweet, long-lashed mamacita, Huda has some SERIOUS red flags, to put it lightly.

Huda Mustafa On Love Island USA: Red Flags, Drama

Violent Insecurity

No, I’m not saying Huda is literally violent, but the way she allowed her insecurities about her budding relationship to cause her to lash out was unhinged AF. While many thin-skinned Islanders internalize their fear of being dumped, Huda wildly overcorrected by damn near headbutting Jeremiah into constantly telling her he didn’t want anyone else. When Jeremiah tried to explain he was still “processing” her being a mom, Huda took it as a stab to the heart.

Maybe if Huda hadn’t wigged out the few times, Jeremiah hinted that his mindset could, hypothetically, in the future change, she wouldn’t have been so blindsided when he breathed air in the direction of another woman (Iris). If Huda can swap spit with a semi-truck of a Southern man while bound and gagged, why does Jeremiah getting smooched behind her back send her into such a back-breaking tailspin??? Ultimately, you have to be confident in yourself to trust someone will continue to choose you in the intense Love Island bubble, and I’m starting to think Huda hiding a big part of who she is was a big sign she wasn’t quite ready to do this.

Jumping To Wild Conclusions

I say this with love, but Huda jumps to conclusions like a five-year-old in a bouncy house. Jeremiah undercooks pancakes? He doesn’t value her as a woman. Jeremiah gives her the same sassy energy when joking about her marking him with a hickey? He hates kissing her and wants someone else.

One minute, Huda seemed to handle Olandria kissing her man (at Paige and her suede diaper’s direction) pretty well. She also told Jeremiah (flippantly, sure, but still) to “do what you have to do” as it pertained to Iris. But that night, when America voted to recouple Jeremiah with the bombshell, you’d have thought Huda got the news their boat back home had capsized with all of her lash extensions on it! Yes, Huda and Jeremiah were the most locked-in couple at the time (at her constant insistence), but Jeremiah and Iris had multiple chats, and that is the literal point of Love Island: to explore connections.

Still, Huda took the revelation as a sign America either wanted her to walk the plank or was somehow warning her she was being love-bombed and bamboozled by a Lothario when neither was true. The obvious conclusion that the country — and half her housemates — thinks she and Jeremiah are moving too fast didn’t even occur to her.

Spying On The Boys

Huda’s ear hustling on the boy’s chit-chat (while incredibly entertaining) is a HUGE red flag. It’s basically the Love Island equivalent of reading your boo’s diary or going through his phone: if you feel the need to do that, just know the relationship is already over. Plus, Huda manufactured the evidence she was looking for by taking a rogue sentence and running with it (literally). She claimed Jeremiah was formally jumping ship to Iris when, in reality, he only said the date was nice enough to consider humoring their connection.

Jeremiah actually made a great point (shock) when he said everyone was pushing him to stay open, but the moment he said he did exactly that on the date, he was on the chopping block?! Jeremiah also admitted that he was wrong for not comforting Huda after she nearly got voted off, but she conveniently didn’t hear that part.

Excessive Name-Calling

Listen, let the woman who hasn’t called a man a pussy-ass-bitch throw the first stone, but Huda screaming at the top of her lungs about Jeremiah’s alleged bitch-ass-ness seemed OTT, especially considering the shoe didn’t quite fit. Even though he didn’t try to comfort Huda at all after the recoupling (TBF, after he heard Huda calling him everything but a child of God in the bathroom, what did she expect), Jeremiah had already told his bros to fuck off for criticizing how hard he was going for his relationship with Huda. That’s decidedly not pussy behavior. (And nor is not finishing your plate, for the record.)

Sleeping in a bed with his new partner, and going on a date with her that was literally planned by the producers of the DATING TV SHOW they’re on is actually his job rn, not a crime. More than that, Huda has also verbally dogged out multiple women on the show simply for arriving in Fiji. If Love Island is a litmus test for the real world, then any future relationship in the public eye (famously ripe for rumors and misunderstandings) will be doomed anyway if Huda goes from cool girl to judgmental crash-out on survival mode under the tiniest amount of pressure.

Dragging Outside People Into Your Relationship Mess

We all have that friend who won’t STFU about their shitshow relationship, needing you to validate every word, and even then, still has to cuss the guy out with you as their hostage to feel better. My lady Islanders are fighting for their lives, trying to make it through Huda’s one-sided war with Jeremiah. If I were Iris, watching Huda angry stomp across the Villa to “talk,” I would simply hide under the covers in Soul Ties because nobody signed up to be a side character in her tirade.

Free advice for the girlie pops? Keep your mess just a little more between you and your man if you don’t want to be forever known as messy. Praying for the strong soldier who comes in to fill Jeremiah’s shoes!
