The sea sponge who lived in a pineapple under the sea just turned 25 years old: Feel old yet? That’s right, it’s SpongeBob Squarepants’ 25th anniversary, and to celebrate Nickelodeon is giving the world a gift instead. Frankly, I plan to patiently wait until the end of time for a Bikini Bottom-themed underwater resort that may or may not be the final Horcrux to heal my inner child. But in the interim, I’ll settle for a specially curated SpongeBob-themed food launch across the entire country including handcrafted dishes from multiple restaurants. The biggest culinary highlight of this “Krabby Patty Collab” menu comes from Wendy’s. Everyone’s favorite greasy redhead, Wendy (who comes in a close second to Cady Heron before Regina got her hands on her), has decided to get in on the fun by bringing The Krabby to life after decades of mythologizing the treat on TV. In a decision that received two thumbs up from my taste buds and a future sad face from my bank account, I tried the SpongeBob Squarepants Krabby Patty Kollab menu to find out if Krabby Pattys taste good once and for all.

Is the Wendy’s Krabby Patty good?

As the reviews are rolling in, so far, Wendy’s take on the Krabby Patty is a familiar take on the fictional classic. There is unfortunately no seaweed or kelp included but who can be mad at a classic Wendy’s square burger with two slices of American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and a “peppery, savory” Krabby Patty Kollab sauce that stands out from the typical burger condiment. The Pineapple Under The Sea Frosty, on the other hand, has been heralded as something to write home about. The pineapple mango puree is a deliciously sweet twist on the frosted vanilla favorite that tastes just like your mom’s minivan after soccer practice.

Starting Tuesday, October 8, 2024, restaurants across the globe will participate in a program of unique menu items inspired by the Krabby Patty. Each restaurant will serve a uniquely dreamed-up recipe at participating locations in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, San Francisco, Seattle, Miami, Las Vegas, Toronto, London, and Mexico City. Some big names in addition to Wendy’s are Black Tap, Fat Sal’s, Harlem Shake, Monty’s Good Burger, Pinkbox Donuts, Salt & Straw, Slutty Vegal, Seoul Taco, and dozens more. The collaboration will end October 27th.

As a girlie who involuntary lost her sweet tooth after eighth grade, Pinkbox Donut’s sugary take on the Krabby Patty was still absolutely worth it. The halved donut sprinkled in sesame sandwiches a chocolate cake “patty” with delicious raspberry drizzle. Pinkbox is located in Nevada with shops in Henderson and Las Vegas.

If Mr. Krabs decided to go Italian, this is 100% the dish he’d have Spongebob and Squidward slinging up. I wish I had Patrick’s appetite to eat a hundred of these crispy, light, and yet flavorful mini subs with those super crunchy, hella thicc fries. This Pizzeria is Los Angeles-based.

Prince St. Pizza: A Mini Pizza And Mozzarella Sticks

The local New York Pizza shop that turned into a national phenom did not stop at a personal-sized burger-inspired pizza with beef pepperoni and mushrooms. They also created XL super crispy mozzarella sticks with the perfect amount of cheese. Prince St. Pizza can be found in California, New York, Miami, Vegas, and Toronto.

This is what I mean when I say sweet treat. The LA small business crafted an inside-out cupcake that is ridiculously moist (sorry about the M-word) but not too sweet.

Fat Sal’s: Krabby Patty Mango Burger

In one of the more ~kreative~ takes, fat Sal’s is offering a double smash burger with American cheese, jalapeno crunch, pineapple salsa, and their trademarked fat sauce. This one is for the freaks who love pineapple pizza (I am one of you). As if that wasn’t enough, the fries on the side are dusted with hot Cheeto crumbs. Fat Sal’s are present throughout California.

Monty’s Good Burger: A Vegan Krabby Patty

Monty’s is a truly delicious Vegan option for LA locals (as a certified meat eater, trust me, it’s true). If you can make it to town before the end of the month, their “juicy burger” topped off with the onion aioli and crinkle-cut pickles is worth the trip.
