While chatting about her upcoming album, Forever is a Feeling, in new interviews with People and The New Yorker, Lucy shared that the dating rumors are true, and she and Julien moved to Los Angeles together after the Boygenius tour wrapped in 2024. When she was asked about the Julien dating rumors during her People interview, Lucy didn’t hold back. “Yeah, I have seen them,” she said. “I can confirm we are dating. We are together. People are right.” Initially, she and Julien wanted to keep their relationship private, but they’re ready to share the news with fans now.

“We just talked about it kind of recently, and we were like, “What is actually at risk for people knowing this?” Lucy said. She added that she “hopes to God” people knowing won’t negatively affect the relationship. “We wanted to be protective because it matters so much,” Lucy explained. “From us to you, we are in love.” So happy for them <3.

It’s unclear exactly how long they’ve been dating, but Lucy said that they’ve been friends for more than nine years and haven’t been dating the whole time. Apparently, she’s a big fan of the friends to lovers arc. “How are you doing romance without friendship?” she asked during her New Yorker interview. “I can’t imagine.”

She told People that the romance was “percolating” throughout their time in Boygenius. The band was active from 2018 until their “indefinite hiatus” in 2024, so, it’s possible Lucy and Julien have been together for several years already. In October 2023, they dressed as Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande for Halloween, so yeah, that was giving couple costume.

There are definitely songs on Lucy’s new album that are about Julien and their relationship. “Literally the most revealing [song] is ‘Most Wanted Man,’ because I think it makes it pretty plain as day that it’s for Julien,” Lucy told People. “I mean, she sings on it.”

I’m guessing “Lost Time” is also about Julien. Lucy says it’s the last song on the album, and the sentiment is: “All of the time that I knew I love you and didn’t say is lost time.” We’ll have to wait and see which other tracks are inspired by this iconic romance. Forever is a Feeling comes out on March 28!
