Everything To Know About ‘Overcompensating’ Season 2

Need this like yesterday.

Take me back to Yates University NOW, I beg you. It’s been just over two weeks since Benito Skinner’s Overcompensating premiered on Prime Video and I binged all eight episodes in one sitting. (What, like it’s hard?) Needless to say, I’m starving for more. Comedy gold paired with uncomfy, vulnerable moments, a Charli XCX soundtrack, and epic celeb cameos is just… chef’s kiss. When episode 8 ended with a truly shocking development, my hand flew to my keyboard to press that next episode button. You can imagine the profound disappointment that overcame me when there was no next episode button. Instead, Prime was attempting to recommend another show to me, as if I was somehow ready to leave Yates and abruptly transition to another fictional universe. That experience was infuriating, yes, but Benito is kind of a genius for giving Prime no choice but to renew the show for another season. The people need answers! What’s next for Benny and his quirky crew?

So, are we getting Overcompensating season 2? And if so, when? Here’s everything we know so far about the release date, cast, and plot.

Prime hasn’t officially confirmed a season 2 yet, but the internet absolutely adores this show, so I’d say another season is likely. Plus, there’s obviously a lot more to explore in the Overcompensating world, and Benito and his costars have confirmed they’re down for more seasons. “I think I know what I want to do and there’s so much more we wanna say,” Benito told Variety. “There will be backslide, and that’s what that finale is. This journey of becoming yourself and overcompensating, it’s a rollercoaster and at times I think college can be so selfish and you can be like, it’s every man for himself.”

Adam DiMarco (the loml) added, “I know what Benny has planned for season two if we get one, and it’s insane, it’s so good. I wish I could tell you.” Don’t be shy, Adam… Spill the tea. This is a safe space. Mary Beth Barone noted that she’s hoping for a season 2 so the characters can “finally be honest with each other about who they are and how they make each other feel.”

Overcompensating Season 2 Plot

Well, season 1 ended with a major cliffhanger… Carmen kisses Miles and then accidentally outs Benny to Miles and Grace. It would be a heinous crime to end the series there, which is why we most definitely need a season 2 ASAP. Surely, a second season would explore the Benny, Carmen, Miles drama and Benny navigating coming out to his sister and Miles. Plus, I need a lot more Hailee Marie Matthews plot lines in my life… I’d even support a HMM spinoff.

When asked about Overcompensating season 2, Benito told Deadline, “What’s interesting to me about this idea of ‘overcompensation’ with these characters is that at no point do you stop doing that completely. I’m really inspired by the thought that if anyone has a comfort in it, or a comfort blanket, we take it away.” He added, “Now some truths are out there, but I don’t think you stop overcompensating even when the truth is [out] there, too.” The show creator explained that he wants to see the characters “start over” in many ways. Here for that!

Assuming there is a season 2, I think we can expect see many of the same iconic actors return: Benito Skinner would be back to star as Benny (duh), and I’d also expect to see Bally Waram, Rish Shah, Owen Thiele, Adam DiMarco, and Mary Beth Barone return to the show. Praying Connie Britton and Kyle MacLachlan come back too! During his chat with Variety, Benny revealed that Pedro Pascal is a dream guest star… Oh, I need that to happen, STAT.

“This is my dream cast,” Benito told Out about his Overcompensating costars. “The show is exactly what it needs to be. What a gift that all of these people, I’m like, ‘I wanna see you do that, and I wanna see you do that.’ And that, I think, is the mark of a cast that is just right.” Retweet.
